Hotel Annapurna is one of the best places to stay in Kathmandu. I stayed here twice this month. While first visit was much better than the second one, overall experience was great.
Let me tell you one by one.
Location: Amazing! Next to the Palace on Darbar Marg (Which is the only highstreet in Kathmandu) and within a kilometers' distance from the tourist places like Thamel and shopping areas like Indrachowk (for handicrafts, apparels and woolens), New Road (for electronics and Jewellery) and street market of Jamal. Trust me this is the best location one can get in Kathmandu.
Hotel: Hotel is spread in large area and is 2 storied. You have various restaurants for Indian and other cuisines. Food is a bit costly but tasty. portions are large enough. Their coffee shop is good too where they give buffet breakfast. But the spread for the complimentary breakfast is not that great.
Rooms: First floor rooms are better than the second floor rooms. Try to see if you can get 1st floor. Bathroom is better done up on the first floor deluxe rooms with Kohler fittings while second floor bath fittings are old styled parryware.
First floor rooms also have card acess while you have keys for the second floor rooms.
First floor rooms also have room automation with a console for AC, lights alarms etc. Second floor doesn't have that.
Rooms have basic amanities but iron/ironing board, bathroom slippers and bathrobes are available on request, though they are not charged.
Service: Staff is friendly, check in and check out is very fast but room services at times is quite slow. Had different experience every day with the staff. sometimes extremely fast and most of the times slow.
Phone/internet: both are very costly at the hotel, you can try intwernet cafes nearby or even internet telephone booths which are much cheaper for calling. The best trick is to buy a Rs 200 ($2) simcard of N Cell from across the street and use it while your stay in nepal. Call charges are very very cheap with that and internet on mobile is also good. and its local for anywhere in nepal, like pokhara chitwan etc. no roaming.
Casino: Casino Anna is the best casino of Nepal and you can see huge crowd in the evnings. 100 Indian Rupees is minimum for playing in casino and in that you can buy 20, Rs 5 coins or 10 Rs 10 coins for the slot machines. for the serious gamblers first floor is the place with black jacks, pokers etc.
Overall the place is good and friendly. Full marks for the location.

Room Tip: Rooms on the First floor are much better than the rooms on the second floor. Go for the Deluxe room...

Fantastic hotel. Well maintained, neat and clean. Excellent front office staff, great food. Complimentary breakfast. Slightly expensive. The hotel is centrally located and about 30 minutes from the international airport. has a miniature temple of Annapurna in the lobby. Puja is done every day in the morning and evening. pashupathinath temple is nearby. .

My mom and I did not originally plan to stay here, but when she got sick from our travels before arriving in Nepal we decided to stay in style to help her out. This place is amazing for Asian standards. I would not say that it meets American five star standards but the rooms were very nice and clean and the staff was very helpful.

The shower was really nice as well.

They have a pool and great dining room available for all meals and there was something good to eat at each time of the day.

We didn't spend a great deal of time at the hotel, but if I were willing to spend the money I would easily and comfortably stay here again.

Although, I typically do not stay in five star hotels this is the second best hotel I've stayed in during my 12 years of traveling to Asia.
(please note that the travel was actually July of 2010 and not November)

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor in what seemed to be a place that would be used a lot, but never ha...

We stayed for sometime in one of the recently refurbished rooms. it was spacious, comfortable everything worked just fine. We were on a corporate rate so got some services we didn't have to pay for directly. The staff go out of their way to look after you. There an't many hotels, anywhere, where it is possible to spend a lot of time actually in the room - I was working there, but had no problems. It was wedding season and almost every night there were receptions outside, but the sound proofing of the windows was good and besides the celebrations all ended early and were a joy to watch, a blaze of color. It is hotel that holds a lot of functions and receptions and has guests from all over the world staying there. A choice of restaurants we ate mostly in the Coffee Shop. One small problem we encountered was dealt with efficiently. The reception staff are clued in and communication was good. Excellent stay.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor overlooking the garden and the swimming pool. I guess if during weddin...

I stayed at Hotel de l'Annapurna for two nights after my trek in the Everest region.
On the plus side, the hotel is in a central location and they were able to provide me with a room without too much waiting time when I arrived from the Lukla flight at 9am. Also, the food at the on-site Chinese restaurant was very nice and the bed was comfortable.
However, I have no idea how this hotel received and maintains five stars. The water out of the tap was a yellow-brownish color, the A/C was incredibly noisy, and both the the bathroom and the bedroom were infested with cockroaches of all sizes. WiFi was too expensive at about 10 Euros per day and kept dropping out (as did the TV reception) and as a final insult the boxed breakfast on departure day contained almost uncooked "hard-boiled" eggs.
Bottom line, the hotel would have been OK at 20 USD and 2 stars but at this price, with these many stars I expect much better quality and service.
If you're looking for a great hotel with real five star quality I recommend Dwarika's hotel instead, even if it's a little more expensive.
