Arrived on a flight late at night, hotel had sent a car to pick us up, quick trip to the hotel. Prompt, very friendly checkin. We were extended free internet for being Priority Club members even though we were not elite level. Rooms were adequate - beds OK, not special. Both of our rooms were far too hot. The next day, we asked for help in getting the room temp lowered, an employee came within minutes, but he was not able to fix the problem, and he was unable to open the windows. Baths were small but adequate. Breakfast included with our room, fairly good variety and good quality. Would stay here again, but would hope to get rooms with less heat problems. Price was a bargain.

We had a wonderful time staying at Hotel Crowne Plaza which is also known as Soaltee or maybe it is in that area or something within Kathmandu. Staff was very well trained, and courteous in my opinion. The best attraction of the hotel is its casino and the girl staff in that casino ;)

The hotel does have different food varieties, however I would rate their delicacies 3 out of 5 stars. They need to work it up a little more in order for guests staying at the hotel to be eating in their restaurants. Other than that its one of the best hotels in the city and I will definitely go there again.

Room Tip: Rooms with the Pool side view are the best in my opinion. check my photos.

We stayed at the Soaltee for 12 days. Whilst the hotel grounds are just lovely, in my opinion the hotel is tired. The staff were incredibly friendly but the service was exceptionally poor- in particular- there was never any soap or toilet paper in the lobby toilets and one had to ask staff members countless times to attend to it and the toilets were always dirty; the rooms were not actually cleaned by the housekeeping staff; the bathroom was not cleaned unless we asked; a mistake was made with our account and our credit card was double charged - when I pointed it out to the night staff I got told that it was absolutely impossible and I was wrong- next morning though, when I drew the matter to the attention of the accounts department it was sorted but not with good grace; I lost count of the amount of times I asked for coffee at breakfast; the massage area in the beauty spa was not clean.
On a good note, New Years Eve Bollywood entertainment was excellent as was the buffet and the Chinese restaurant within the main hotel is certainly a cut above everything else the hotel had to offer. The concierge was very good regarding arranging taxi service. The shops down stairs are also well priced and offer good quality products at very reasonable prices

Room Tip: ask for a newly refurbished room

Undoubtedly one of the most entertaining and enjoyable experiences my wife and I have had at an international hotel after years traveling across continents for leisure and business. We have visited third world countries before but this was the first country in which there was a real sense of culture shock, jarringly so. The Soaltee was a cocoon away from the shock we experienced. I wouldn't trade this trip for anything nor this stay at this hotel that was truly memorable.

Here are some suggestions, in part for your stay at the hotel and in part for your general arrival.

1. SIM CARD. If you want a prepaid SIM card, get it at the airport on arrival, outside customs. Dirt cheap. We got a 500 rupee top-up card too, the equivalent of $5.00. Talk time locally and internationally very inexpensive. YOU WILL NEED A PASSPORT PHOTO to get the SIM card. I recommend you have a photocopy with you of your passport too, as it is required for the SIM card. If the photocopy machine they have where they sell the SIM cards is broken, you will not be able to get your SIM card at the airport.

2. ATM. Within the gated and secured compound of the hotel, 15 yards outside the front door of the hotel, you will find the ATM. You are limited to 35000 rupee ($350) per day at that machine, no matter if your card otherwise has a higher daily withdrawal. $350 in Nepalese rupees goes a long way, however!

3. ONSITE TRAVEL AGENCIES in the hotel. There are two. We found them quite reasonable by comparison to what one would pay for services like this in the developed world and arranged a great tour one day for Kathmandu, including driver and guide, for the equivalent of $135.00. Our tour lasted more than 9 hours but that may vary.

4) AIRPORT PICK-UP BY TAXI HIRED BY HOTEL--and one giant shout out to MR. BHOLA THAPA, who, if you can, ask the hotel to have him meet you with the taxi and escort you to hotel. Arrange for the hotel to have a taxi meet you at the airport so you do not contend with the jumble outside. This service cost us the equivalent of $15, roughly around twice what you would pay for a taxi hire if you hired it and got a good taxi rate from the airport. $15! What a bargain for the stress we saved. We were greeted by Mr. Bhola Thapa, an employee of the hotel, who was there with the taxi awaiting us. I cannot say enough kind things about how he helped us throughout our stay. As well, on the day we left Kathmandu for India, flying on Jet Air, he was at the airport and escorted us to check-in. We by-passed the main lines for check in and went to the first class line, though we only had economy tickets. You can see why this hotel has won a prestigious international business hotel travel award from India for a couple years running. When we stayed at an Intercontinental Hotel in Cairo Egypt in 2010, and paid for a meet and greet service to expedite our arrival and departure, we did NOT get anything nearly so complete and as helpful as what Mr. Thapa provided us.

5) MEET SAGAR RAI, REVENUE MANAGER, IF HE's ON DUTY:
I am a Platinum member in the IHG Rewards program, and in past years was a Royal Ambassador for a few years. The Platinum benefit is worth it. Mr. Rai greeted us and helped us with check in. He made a great suggestion that we buy tickets for the New Year's Eve party at the hotel for which I would actually go out of my way to divert here for a trip if I'm in this part of the world in the future. I can't tell you how that rocked! Wow! Mr. Rai was very helpful.

6) IF PLATINUM OR HAVE OTHERWISE PAID, ENJOY THE EXECUTIVE LOUNGE: The wine and food are not extensive but we really enjoyed the lounge. There was a young man, possibly in his 30s, on duty the one night we went and we loved him. He was so pleasurable trying to help us get some hot spicy condiments for our snacks and he was very kind to write out some simply phrases in Nepalese for us to use. He also waited on us at the New Year's Eve event and was kind, so gracious, and so sincere that we slipped him a $50 bill at the end of the night. That's a nice tip in any country but in Nepal, I can only imagine how much it blessed him. I wish I knew his name but I think the first two letters started with "Ch" and it was a fairly long last name.

I didn't get to meet the hotel's general manager, Nalin Mandiratta, but, great hotel experiences like this are only possible when the hotel has great management at the top and I can only say he has done one heck of a job with this property making it an oasis in Nepal.

We stayed here for 2 nights and appreciated the flexible main buffet restaurant where you could get something to suit most people and the atmosphere was very casual. We also tried the pool and had it to ourselves ( well, it was rather cold!)
Our room was fine if not particularly appealing - nothing wrong with it, just uninspiring, but we were out most of the day so it hardly mattered. Staff were helpful and efficient.
It is not central but it is a short ride from the centre and we actually walked to the centre in half an hour. It's actually rather restful not to be in the middle of the city.

I was there on a business trip and had a comfortable stay. This Hotel can be termed as Heratage Hotel as the architecture is very nice and it spans in a huge area. The Italian restaurant near the Swimming pool is awesome. The Rooms are spacious though the furniture seems a bit Old. The Location is also good. The huge garden view adds to its scenic beauty.
