An amazing mtb trip, after much research decided to use Makalu to guide us across the Himalayas via base camp, the staff, guides and organisation where excellent everything done with a smile, cant praise them enough.
The cycling was more of an endurance event, the altitude making it much tougher than you can imagine,so get some serious training in before taking this trip on,camping at Rongbuk and waking up to see Everest made all the hard climbs and sore butts worth while,
We went in September and most of the time it was warm daytime, and around freezing at nights,we had a couple of sleety showers but only on one or two days,You will need a down sleeping bag we bought fake ones in Kathmandu and they where fine, although they did tend to shed feathers so probably wouldn't last to long.
If your going to do this route use Makalu the price is right the guides are really on the case, the catering was surprisingly good ,the camping and washing in glacier streams just add to the adventure

We chose Makalu Adventure under the recommendation of a collegue who did several trekks with this company. The staff was taking great care of us and was really helpful. Everything was well organized and planned. The guide was very competent and friendy. I already recommended Makalu Adventure to my friend, who plans trekking in Nepal. Thanks a lot guys for such a great experience! We think about coming back for definitely longer trek :-)

We chose Makalu Adventure as it was strongly recommended by our friend, who visited Nepal for trekking a year earlier and we were not dissapointed. The staff is very attentive, open and happy to help - starting with the owner of the company Mohan Lamsal, down to our guide Yogi Bharati and the great porter - always smilig Danku. Actually we believe Danku is the best ambassador of the company! We had a problem with getting out of Lukla and needed to do a 1h trek in very demanding conditions to get to the helipad. It was 2 days after our trek was finished and any agreement was no longer bonding the company with us, but all of them were very helpfull and nice. Danku met us on the street just grabbed our luggage and carried it for us.

We did 8 days trekking from Lukla to Tyanboche and it was great! Everything was well organized and planned. The guide was very competent. We felt taken care of. And in case of a problem, when weather kept us in Lukla, everyone in there, including the owner were very involved to help find the solution.

We also used the company for the 3-days trip to Chitwan National Park and it was great as well.

This has been one of the best adventure biking trips I have ever had the pleasure of doing! Helped out a lot by the fact that Makalu were thoroughly professional and helpful and friendly throughout.
I was used to road biking mainly and was a bit nervous as to the difficulty of the offroad, but ended up enjoying the offroad the most! I would say you definitely need a more than average to high level of fitness to get the most out of this trip, so get training and don't miss what could prove to be the trip of a lifetime! Thank you Makalu!
