The village is tourist free and looks exactly the way it did when the yak trains used to stop there on their way to India. Beautiful even if not dilapidated architecture. The people there are very friendly and happy to chat. Don't forget to visit the nearby temple. It's stunning too.

Sankhu is little far from the Kathmandu city but it worthy to visit .Sankhu temple is located on a high hilltop surrounded by the forest and there are lots of monkeys around the temple.

There is no doubt Sankhu is one of the beautiful Newari village. The residents of Sakhu are credited for maintaining their traditional ways of life and the rich culture they have inherited. There is a temple call Vajrayogini it's above the beautiful village of Sankhu. If you are planning to go nagarkot this is the best way from sankhu Village. It's good to go by walking you will see one of the beautiful Landscape call Palubari Village.

Sankhu used to be flourishing as beung connected to a trade route but now is a dreamy little village where old architecture and woodcarving reveal the gone glory. Also while you are there visit the Hamro Gaun project a model eco village just 200 meters down the lapsephedi road from the old town square

After walking all day from Nagarkot on a bum swollen knee I needed to spend a night in Sankhu village. I only found one guesthouse in the village on the main road near a gate. The woman who owns the place showed me only one very small room with 2 beds and said the price was 400 rupies for one nights stay. I had no choice but to settle for that filthy dusty 'single' which had two beds crammed inside! I had to pay a whopping 400 rupies for the room which is worth only 100 rupies (and I can say acurately say this as I have spent months touring the country). She was lucky that my knee hurt because if I was not in pain I would have surely laughed in her face at her inflated room rate and I would have continued onward to the next destination. Nearby is the Helembu region where tourists trek into the mountains. There are many guesthouses along Helembu routes that charge 300-400 rupies/night for doubles. The woman who owns the place in Sankhu simply decided that she can charge the same 400 rupie rate for her lousy cheap room justifying that it was the 'normal' rate for the region. Yet Sankhu is in a valley and really doesn't have much appeal for most travellers. DON'T stay there so that she can see that her rate is unreasonable!
