“Pretty pricey for what it is in KTM”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2013

Having no frame of reference for what is normal in KTM, I booked this hotel on hotels.com before arriving in Nepal. The place is tidy and the rooms are nice enough, but throughout the rest of our trip we stayed at places that were nicer in KTM for half and often less than half the price of Pariwar. If you don't mind spending the extra money, I don't think you'll regret it. Also, we left a backpack with them when we went trekking and when we got back it took them nearly a half hour to locate it. All's well that ends well, but it was pretty stressful thinking they had lost our stuff for half an hour. If you are planning on doing a trek, I would suggest that you skip the meeting with Amish (the brother of the owner, apparently) and go find someone else. We booked with Amish for a 20 day trek and we finished in 13 days. In our meeting her made it very clear that if we went over 20 days we could just pay him the extra upon our return and if we finished early he would just wire us the difference. When we did finish our trek he was "unreachable". What? What if something had actually been wrong? His business partner just kept telling us "this is not my deal". 3 or so days later, when we finally were able to get in contact with Amish, he made it incredibly difficult for us to get our money: said he was going to western union it in 1 hour, so in 2 hours we went to western union and he hadn't done it yet. When he finally did get us our money, he had us walk a few miles across Pokhara to some other random hotel where the guy went who knows where and came back with our money, but not all of it. Amish said that he needed to keep some of the balance he owed us for "taxes and things". If you mention that you're going to be trekking, Amish will probably be meeting you for breakfast the following day.

I was skeptical when i first went to purchase this room (basic). The gates being closed was exsagerated, theres a curfew on the streets in effect at midnight and if you are late just ring the doorbell in 30 seconds security will be down to open. Another false add about this hotel was the helpfulness of staff, manoj a staff personel was great a guide for trekken was great, both volunteered to take me around kathmandu manoj and i went and ate at a couple nice restuarants in all there very helpfull and i loved the staff as well as the hotel its surrounding and location was perfect THANK YOU for everything.

We liked the Pariwar so much we stayed twice. Once before our EBC trek and then again afterwards. The staff was inviting and they made us feel at home. Ram the owner was very helpful and full of advice for things to do and places to see. The location was convenient and the rooms spacious. We especially liked having our breakfast on the terrace balcony.

Based on tripadvisor reviews, I booked the Pariwar B&B for three of us traveling to Nepal for the first time in order to hike the Everest Base Camp Trek. Arriving in Kathmandu is an intimidating experience, so the gracious welcome by the director, Ram, & his staff, instantly comforted us. We would end up staying one additional night before our trek, and 3 nights on our return. Ram's willingness to help and constant smile were characteristics I would have difficulty finding in the States. He set us up with a trekking coordinator (Mosaic Adventures) that would end up going above & beyond to ensure our experience was a positive one. The rooms were barely a step below far more expensive hotels, but many steps above the hostels & other hotels I had researched prior. He even upgraded us without requesting so, or additional cost, on our second stay. The shower was always hot, requests handled promptly, and the terrace breakfasts a great start to each day. We even left our unnecessary items in their storage area during our hike. The central location in Thamel is surrounded by good restaurants, an abundance of mountaineering shops, and a nearby grocery story. These conveniences made the exhaustion from our journey much easier to recover from. Always weary of scams, or being taken advantage of, I couldn't have been more satisfied with our Kathmandu visit thanks to Ram and his staff.
