“An excellent stay”
Reviewed May 16, 2012

We stayed at the Hotel Nepalaya for 5 nights in total split over 2 periods between 5 May and 14 and the first thing to say is we negotiated a rate and service with Milan over e mail before we left the UK and he delivered on every aspect of our agreement which is a great start. We stayed in the suite, it was large and comfortanble and more than adequate for the price we paid. We used the roof top restuarant and that too was excellent for breakfast, and the staff unfailingly polite and helpful. All in all for the price this hotel charges you get a very high level of service and comfortable accomodation and even more importantly if you are finishing a trek here a comfortable bed. The location is perfect in the heart of Thamel and whilst the approach to it might not be the best there is nothing the hotel can do about that....it is down a small alley which has the very significant advantage that rooms are shielded from the noisy streets of Thamel. All in all a very good stay, go for the suite and the additional room it provides, it is still avery reasonable cost.

I returned to Hotel Nepalaya mid April with a friend for trekking. We have spent many nights here over the past month, returning after trekking, visiting with friends, and trips to the villages.

I organised our rooms through email with Milan. Always the gentleman he replied promptly and we were met at the airport and whisked through the dusty back streets of Kathmandu to the peace and tranquility that is the Nepalaya.

Our rooms were spotless, there was hot, hot water 90% of the time and the beds are huge and super comfy.

The hotel is just off a busy street that is a shoppers paradise. There is a lovely white stupa out the front which serves as a good landmark in the frenzy of Thamel. You approach the hotel by a small narrow lane with 2 local teas shops and 2 little stores selling general supplies . I love this lane for it's friendliness with old and young calling Namaste as a greeting as you walk by.

As I type I am sitting up in its rooftop restaurant, (free wi fi) with the city spread out in full view enjoying the excellent food. But the best bit of the Nepalaya are the staff. They are all so friendly, polite and professional.

Well done Milan and all the staff.

I have traveled in 12+ countries and this one tops as the one with good value for money. The rooms are very spacious and beautiful, too! Very clean. Great staff, very helpful. You can email them in advance to help you plan your visit in Kathmandu. Good restaurants and shops are within a walking distance, with an ATM too! Would definitely recommended it. Would stay here again definitely!

Have spent a couple of days in the Nepalaya. I would recommend this for those who look for comfortable, not expensive and European-like stay in Kathmandu. Among the most remarkable advantages of the hotel I can mention its rooms, really clean and spacious. Thanks to Milan, the hotel manager, for the good days in Nepal. Sergey, Russia.

We came to this place by recommendation of a friend who was spot on!
The rooms are big and clean, the TV works and most of all the beds are soft!
Unlike our previous hotel this place has a very nice rooftop restaurant and bar with great views, good WI-FI in and out rooms!
The place even has a medium size lift making it nice to get your bags to the room without killing yourself.
Overall a great stay and a good price for the location that was very quiet.

This is a bit of a strange, echoing place. The hotel is fairly new but has been surrounded by other buildings. The rooms are great, very modern and clean. Best shower I've had in Nepal, we even have a bathtub! Towels, soap and toilet paper provided. Satellite TV and a really nice big roof garden restaurant. I haven't eaten there yet. The rooms have backup lights when the power is off. Internet is super fast. They even have a lift! We are too scared to use it in case the power goes off.

We spent the day looking at lots of hotels and this was the best value place we could find.

When my boyfriend and I found ourselves in big troubles in Kathmandu the wonderful guys running this hotel helped us a great deal and showed us the true Nepali hospitality. Their friendliness, generousity and compassion is one thing that really convinced us once and for all that Nepalis are truly fantastic people. The way they took care of us in their hotel we have never experienced before and it is heartwarming to know that there is still people like this.

We stayed one night in a perfectly clean room with comfortable beds, took hot showers (although hot water and electricity is never a guarantee in Nepal), used the wifi in our room without problem and had a nice Dahlbat in the roof top restaurant. We slept very well. Its not a luxury hotel, but beeing in Kathmandu this was by far the best we saw. If youre expecting the Ritz then youre better off in Thailand. :)

Thank you so much for your hospitality Nepalaya, maybe well see you again some day!
