Accompanied by 2 children we dropped in for an early evening meal because some other restarants were shut till 6pm. We did not finish our food and went elsewhere. It was devoid of any flavour, stringy chicken, perhaps undercooked. The meat tasted like our battery chicken rather than the free range that is common in Kathmandu. Yet it is expensive by Kathmandu standards.

Of course coming to Nepal from America and living in Kentucky for 15 years I kinda knew what to expect. Low and behold half way around the world and Kentucky Fried Chicken lives up to my expectations. Oh you ask what are the KFC expectations? 1. so greasy it actually pores out of the chicken when you bite it 2. Midget chickens what I mean is the legs are so small they have to come from Midget Chickens. 3. service sucks. So anyway at least they are keeping it real in Nepal as well. Come on KFC visit your competition and let them teach you how to cook chicken right and hire people that can smile and for the sake of all, leave those little chickens alone.

KFC Kathmandu, situated on Darbar Marg, was not anything special. The only reasons I am writing this review is because at times the Westerners get so fed-up of the local chow that they start craving for burgers and fried chicken and because they "claim to" sell halal chicken. I would still prefer authentic halal food eateries like Anatolia. The food was oily, unexciting and not as well cooked as in Pakistan, Malaysia and Thailand. The only thrilling thing there were the KFC Krushers specially the Kafeccinos.

It is also at Durbar Marg (king’s way) just beside the Pizza Hut. It was opened two years before and people queued up to 50 meters to eat its food. Such craze was not seen for any hotel or restaurant in Nepal. So, I was very curious about its fried chicken. My curiosity increased when I came to know that they don’t use local fowl but they import from Brazil. Therefore I thought to taste real foreign chicken.
Last August I went with my friend. Here also the same thing staffs speaking English. A westerner may be American spoke in Nepali but they respond him English which was really interesting . We bought snack boxes of fried chicken and lemonade. Lemonade was really refreshing but the chicken was hell. It was not cooked properly from inside and was smelling oil. I felt very difficult to finish it up. It was not value for money. The service was also very lousy not expected from these kinds of restaurants. I am thinking to give it a try for second time let’s see if the things have improved by now.
