“Highlight of Kathmandu for us”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 28, 2012

We were booked into this hotel one night only after having spent a long day at the Kathmandu airport waiting for a flight to Lukla to begin our trek. It was such a relief to walk into a clean room after the filth of the previous hotel our tour operator Corsa Nepal had booked us into. How this hotel had availabity was our good luck and the prices were comparative.

Rooms:
Clean, very clean with a lovely little sitting area in the room. The young boy at the front desk eagerly had a pot of tea brought to us at no charge and with a huge smile. After our experience at the Kathmandu Resort Hotel, this place was like heaven. Everything smelled clean and looked pristine. The shower was not contained and is representative of the showers we experienced all over Asia but we carried rubber soled slippers with us so wet bathroom floors were not problematic. There was hot water so that made us very happy. We had a very restful sleep here and the temperature in the room was perfect. There were fans on the ceiling but we didn't really need them.

Computer Access:
Right outside our room was a computer set up for guest access. it was not noisy from guests coming and going and the connection was pretty fast. Nice amenity to offer guests.

Rooftop breakfast:
We were lucky enough to meet the owner during our breakfast. He was a very unassuming man and very gracious. The breakfast was more than satisfactory and cooked up in a kitchen just off of the sitting area. it was a relaxing experience.

Lounges:
There was a comfortable sitting area located just up the stairs. if you got tired of your room there was this lovely option available.

Elevator:
This was a great option for carrying up luggage. We used the stairs but we did note the elevator.

Location:
Perfect. Everything was accessible. Nice Italian Restaurant right out front with great tasting food. After a long day we were pretty lazy and this was a great option.

I'd highly recommend this place and would return here in a heartbeat. Thamel is crazy busy and this place is a little haven of calm. Most importantly, you feel like a honoured guest and are treated so respectfully. Most certainly Hotel Family home was the highlight of our two visits to Kathmandu.

We travelled 3,5 months in Nepal and stayed in this hotel few times. The staff is really really friendly - you get everything you need immediately with their help! They can help you to book trips, find the best sights, restaurants, massage places, transportation possibilities etc in Kathmandu and Nepal. The hotel was really clean and quiet, nice beds and bathrooms, breakfast on the rooftop restaurant was delicious, room service, laundry and wifi worked well and we got excellent service in good English. I really recommend this hotel to everyone visiting Kathmandu and Nepal! :)

This hotel is in the heart of Thamel and gives not only a great value for your room, but allows you to save on trekking costs. Professionals associated with the hotel have provided me a great trek to Annapurna Base Camp with the most energetic and helpful guide, Ram. A great extension to the level of service within the hotel with an owner focused on the happiness of his guests. This does in fact give the hotel name its wonderful value.
I'm sure you can get a cheaper hotel in the same area, but the rooms here are clean, big and in good state. The budget rooms have to share the bathroom, but this hasn't been a problem to me, as they are well maintained and cleaned.

We have been in Kathmandu with my family (2 children- 2 adult)this week in January 2012 and everything was perfect from the first mail to the last minute staying here.

They pick up us in the airport as expected in the night drove us to the hotel give us a big room with A-C and everyday for all week very good breakfast.

The hotel is 2 blocks from the heart of thamel and this is good since the very center is very noisy, the hotel is very clean and the people working here always were nice with us.

A separate chapter is Mr. Mukti who everyday ask us what we should do , is like your personal travel guide in Nepal.

He book us flight tickets to Delhi and several day trips around Kathmandu.

Please bear in mind a special point that is not family home issue but all Kathmandu, and it is the electricity is going off everyday during this part of the year almost 12-14 hours a day.
I learn that this is a winter problem and not all months are like this , but if you are coming now please take this in consideration because is cold now.

Hotel Family Home is a wonderful and friendly place to stay. We were especially impressed with the staff that was always there to greet us and help with our needs. Babual helped us with some of our shopping needs and arranged a car and driver for some touring. The hotel is clean and breakfast served on the rooftop very good. Hotel Family Home is on a relatively quite street for the Thamel District. We stayed here on the front and back side of our trek in November 2011. Katmandu was exciting and intriguing and I would not hesitate to use Hotel Family Home as my base again.
