“A Little Heaven Above The City.”
Reviewed August 6, 2014

I come here every time I visit Kathmandu — because it is a little escape from the city to slow down, to relax, to contemplate, imagine and pray. I usually go all the way to the back and enter from here to have a more peaceful and harmonious entry into this sacred place.
Swayambhu offers sweeping view of the valley to connect better with your favorite location from a bird-eye perspective.
Stupa is a perfect place to increase one's merit (mind positive energy) through circumambulation and turning prayer wheels for everyone's benefit. Also there's a real Gompa where one can light up the candles to brighten the thinking of all beings.
It is a very cool place to hang out for whatever reason, even to do some people-watching. It is a little heaven above Kathmandu.

“Must must visit”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

One of the two most sacred Stupas of the Kathmandu Valley..many legends of the origin of the Stupa..that it arose by itself... It is hard climb up but worth it...great view if the weather is clear..watch your stuff around the monkeys...several troops live here and documentaries have been filmed about them... Go clockwise around....wonderful place !

“Amazing View of Kathmandu!”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

Attraction Worth visiting but only before 4pm. Make sure your going there with taxi only coz its too far and , no road only holes it was like im going on dune bashing , when we reach up there was so many monkeys so be careful what you carry in your hands and soooo many dogs that were aggressive.
The beauty of the place on other hand it is unbelievable. It is smaller than Boudhah Stupa , but definitely different . There was very peaceful athmosphere as the monks were saying prayers and people were sitting and singing songs in the name of Buddha and the view of Kathmandu from the top was breathtaking. If you are there up during the day i would recommend to take the stairs down so you can see the nice sculptors around.

“a world in itself”
Reviewed August 5, 2014

A great walk, a meditative experience and apparently very good for your karmic balance ... if you think wonderful thoughts as you go, which is not difficult ! a microcosm of Buddhism, Nepali customs, Central Asian culture and the hustle and bustle of the city lapping at the base of the stupa. A truly magic place, not to be missed !
