Perched atop a hill on the western edge of the Kathmandu Valley, the ancient Swayambunath Stupa is worth a visit. The all-seeing Buddha eyes that stare out from the top. There are many shrines and statues which are added attraction to the tourists.I enjoyed my visit. There are many attractions here.

This was a fun site to take in. I loved it for the structure/history itself, the view and the monkeys. It can be easy to feel some fatigue at the number of temples to take in and sea of vendors around the city (and temples), but I found this to be a calm setting and lots to see/take in. True, as others mention, beware of the monkeys - but in my experience if you keep to yourself, monkeys will do the same. There is the option to climb up & down, or just down (and probably not at all) - so if this is a consideration in your travels, it might be a site to consider.

Swayambhunath is similar in appearance with Boudanath temple. It's a nice place but there were lots of monkeys and dogs inside swayambhunath. Beware of monkeys. You can get the view of the whole city from the top. When u see the temple from the ground (below the stairs) its seems to be huge but when u actually climb the stairs, the temple is quite small. Entrance fee of 50 Nepali rupee per person (for indian tourist) has to be paid and it's more for foreign tourists.

I liked the temple so much that I visited it twice. The first time I was able to watch a live prayer session. Both times I visited it rained so that kept the number of people to a minimum. Definitely walk up the main entrance with the 365 step approach to the temple.

Imagine how it was without thousands of tourists - and when even white skinned people dis not have to pay to visit the holy place of the Buddha. Nevertheless on some spots the vibes of true religion can still be felt
