“Don't miss this place”
Reviewed December 27, 2013

This temple complex is amazing. The size itself is inspiring, with the many smaller temples surrounding the main stupa. However it is the nibble monkeys that are a real draw card. They are everywhere and Helen help you if you drop a bag of oranges meant for the gods. While we were there this happened and the monkeys were quick to take up the opportunity to get a free feed. This place is a must see. A few issues with hawkers and photo bombing locals that want money in return, but it is all part of the fun.

“Our kids loved the monkeys”
Reviewed December 27, 2013 via mobile

We spent a couple hours at Swayambhunath. The kids thouroughly enjoyed observing the monkeys run about. We were able to go into the Buddhist prayer session and listen to the monks chant. Very relaxing!!!

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

This place is nice to spend few hours, taking photos, listening to thanka stories, enjoying the view of mountains and city (subject to air quality). Going around spinning the prayer wheels and admiring statues (and monkeys).

“Peaceful...”
Reviewed December 26, 2013

After the madness of Kathmandu coming to this place is a treat.... There is no words to describe the peacefulness of the temple, the sound of chimes and mantras, and the spectacular view....

“Smelly but unique”
Reviewed December 25, 2013

Bodies are cremated at the riverside here. So, you can imagine the smell you get. Not very pungent but still there. Cover your nose and stay at the opposite side of the cremation activity side.
