nice place for a day visit, loitering around the area is fun, especially watching people, either local or traveller.

“worth the climb”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Even tho the steps are many and steep it's still worth it to see this temple and all the worshipers gathered uptop giving offerings. On a good dayit also allows for a nice view Kathmandu valley if the fog lifts.

“Please don't call it the monkey temple”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

Although there are a lot of monkeys there, it is not a temple to monkeys. The Kathmandu valley was once flooded and when it drained this hill and the stupa remained (that's the short story). You can walk around the bottom of the hill (kora) and/or you can take the 108 steps to the top of the hill. Get to the top if you have time. It's not just a Buddhist site, I think it has other connections.

“365 Steps worth taking”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

An opportunity to share this moment in life with people from all around the world, monkeys and birds all watching one another. There is great meaning, it's worth paying a guide at the bottom to tell the value and intention of all the aspects we notice but don't understand. All the deities and honorable traditions represent and honorable ans sacred place. The vendors on the lower steps offer some amazing hand carvings.
