“If you see just one thing in Kathmandu, let it be Swayambhunath”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

We named our new and very precious miniature foal Swayambhu as a lasting reminder of this extraordinary place. The monkeys certainly add to the atmosphere but there's also the views and palpable history.

“The most Attractive in Kathmandu!”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

It is a must visit in Kathmandu. Big dome and a lot of Tibetan people. The people counting beads and praying makes the environment religious. Also i saw some of the western monks meditating and reading in the temple premises. I enjoyed one full afternoon here as many restaurant are available for hot tea in this cold weather of Kathmandu!

“Hilltop Temple”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

Offering splendid view of the Kathmandu city from the hilltop, Swayambhunath temple (also known as Monkey Temple) was another World Heritage site in Kathmandu, quite popular among tourists.
It was fun testing our aiming skills throwing NPR 1 coins in the donation vessel inside the water fountain at the entrance.
The temple has a stupa and smaller temples. There are 2 access points, one from the east which is much longer with 365 steps while another from the south is much shorter.
There are many shops selling beautiful handicrafts and local work of art - especially the paintings were worth a deko.

“Awesome visit, monkeys, Buddha eyes, and a view”
Reviewed January 21, 2013

This was one of our first sights in Kathmandu, and one of the most memorable. The temple is beautiful itself, those Buddha eyes on the golden temple with the thousands of colorful flags draped along the temple and the trees are very interesting to look at. Many people were worshiping at the temple, but it wasn't over-crowded. You need to watch out for the monkeys, but they really cute to see. There was more shopping there than I might expect, it kind of ruins the feel, but there are some interesting buys. From the temple, you can see a very nice view of the city.

“Well worth a visit”

Took a private car but could arrange public transport. Was very interesting, good hour spent here. The kids were fascinated with the temple.
