Well so many good Tings to say and so little space, we loved every thing about Tings we went back. The staff are great, very friendly, fun and relaxed. The concept the owners have established is inspiring and their passion shows in creating this unique relaxed haven in the crazy Kathmandu. The rooms are great, so is the location, the food, the staff. If you have read this well do think twice just stay there, one of our favourite EVER places we have stayed.

Room Tip: We stayed in the white room and while we really enjoyed it it may be a bit noisy during the busy sea...

After trekking Poon Hill and visiting Chitwan, we stayed in Tings for one night before going home. We regretted .... should have stayed longer in this wonderful place.

At the time of checking-in, we were instantly impressed by the cosy atmosphere of the garden, totally isolated from the dusty street of Kathmandu. It was not a luxurious hotel, but stylish and comfy, nicely decorated with paintings/drawings, wooden benches and chairs.

The manager Dorjee was very helpful. She and her staff were all young and energetic, very helpful and diligent. We were nosy enough to get into their kitchen, meeting a group of playful and cheerful chefs. Great food indeed.

We stayed in the top lounge, which was very bright and clean, with two big bean-bags and a coffee table. Even better, there was a nice big terrace attached to our balcony where you could take a lazy afternoon nap on the big couch .... a bed to be more exact. The best part of this place was indeed the design of space. You can almost find a couch/chair and a table anywhere, inside or outside the buildings, ground floor or upper floors, where you can hide away from other guests with privacy for your reading/drinking.... whatever you felt like.

Tings was a base for my trip to Nepal and spent over a week here while seeing the sites of Kathmandu. What the owners have done here is just amazing. Clean, tidy, homely accommodation makes your stay in Kathmandu that extra bit special. The breakfast that is available to you every morning is just great, especially the home made bread. The staff are fantastic and love to have a chat to you about your day and can also offer some helpful advice about getting around Kathmandu and Nepal. The rooms are simple, clean and cosy with everything that you need. It has a great location being only 10 minutes walk from Thamel. The food they can cook for you is fantastic. Always helpful if you don't feel like heading out into the crazy streets of Kathmandu and just want a quiet night in. Would stay here again if I ever get back to Kathmandu.

The room was beautiful - I stayed in the sunny room. It was clean, and the room was tastefully done up. I loved the terrace and outdoor garden, they were wonderful break from the chaos you get at Thamel. The breakfast here was AMAZING. The bread was lovely, and so was the yoghurt. My only complaint was the distance.. from Thamel. The walk is not pleasant, as there's lots of construction going on. It was also quite pricey compared to the other places in Kathmandu.

Dear Pho,

We're very glad that you liked your stay.... and very sorry about your experience with Lazimpat Road. As you may know its the whole Kathmandu that looks like this due to the road widening project that has been going on for years now and destroying the experience for all of us living here and - more sadly - all travelers who visit Nepal. When the project is finished (hopefully soon) Lazimpat Road will be the most pleasant road in town...

Most of our guests want to combine the walk to Thamel with shopping, ATM's and an occasional cup of coffee on the way. But There is a very pleasant short cut that only takes 10 minutes to walk, We tell only people who asks about it - and we mention it on the TingsBlog.

Its funny you mention the price... the other day a guest told us that after adding tax'es and tips to the cheaper rooms he had stayed in in Thamel and after paying for his breakfast in a cafe his total price was the same as ours.... the difference was that our breakfast was bigger (he didn't have to eat lunch LOL)

Love

Thomas

Just a 10 minute walk north of Thamel down a narrow lane in the Lazimpat district, Ting's Tea Lounge Hotel is a calm oasis in the chaos of Khatmandu. Its owners converted an old home, added a matching outbuilding, planted lovely gardens and created wonderful common spaces for reading, talking and relaxing indoors and out. The whole is tastefully and simply furnished.

The rooms are tidy and neat, with platform beds and cushions for sitting. Some rooms have attached baths with stone floors and plenty of hot water.

An excellent breakfast is included, featuring homemade bread and fresh fruit salad with basil, among other things. The staff also will make delicious dishes for you most any time from a small but creative menu.

And there are cats. It's so nice some days it's hard to leave.

We stayed here for 3 nights and stayed in sunny lounge, sunny corner and cupboard room. All the rooms were tastefully decorated and very spacious. Food here was excellent and the service made all the difference. Special shootout to mithoon for looking after us so well. We highly recommended tings!

The hustle and bustle of Kathmandu can get exhausting very quickly. The dust, the pollution, the cars, can at times be a very stressful experience. That is why you need a place like Tings. It is an oasis of calm in the midst of craziness. This gem was perfect for us. We chose to be just outside of Thamel on purpose. Tings is about 10-15mins walk from Thamel or a short taxi ride which costs 150 rupees (approx $1.50 USD). Taxi drivers don't really know Tings but if you tell them 'Hotel Ganjong' then its 30 seconds walk from there (there's a 'Blue moon' supermarket on the corner of the street you have to walk up).

It's not a 4 or 5 star resort but it does most things well. The design and layout of the public areas is well thought out, with chill out zones and comfy chairs/cushions indoors and outdoors to escape with a book or sip on tea.

We stayed in the sunny corner, the cupboard room and the white lounge. If i had to be absolutely critical.... There is some street/neighbourhood noise but having said that we left the windows open so you could easily close them to mitigate the noise (which isnt too loud in any case as it is Kathmandu after all). The rooms are clean and adequately appointed for each price point. Not luxurious but we looked forward to coming 'home' everyday after sightseeing or visiting Thamel and more so, after our trek had finished.

Looked forward to breakfast everyday. Home made bread. Lots of fruit, muesli and yoghurt and eggs cooked to your liking. All their food is prepared in their kitchen and the majority is nutritious, tasty and fresh. Sometimes you do have to wait quite a while for them to cook it so it may be worthwhile to order ahead of the time you actually want it. But we were never in a rush.

Lastly, the staff - all wonderful people. We fell in love with them as they took such good care of us and were always smiling and accomodating. They make Tings what it is.

Sure you could save a couple of dollars staying in Thamel but in my opinion those few extra dollars will change your Nepal experience. Definitely book yourself in at Tings.
