I had stayed in a lot of budget hotels by the time I'd stayed here and I can say it felt like one of the better ones. It had a cosy feel which was helped by a carpeted floor which some budget hotels don't have. The shower was hot everyday which was a major bonus as, again, not all budget hotels have reliable hot water. There were extra blankets. The staff were lovely and helpful. The location was great, just seconds from Durbar Square. Plus, you can even order hot drinks to your room. Above all, the price is spot on. I would recommend this to someone on a budget.

Room Tip: If the hotel isn't busy, ask to see a few rooms which is what we did and then we picked the one...

The hotel is located just 3 minutes walk from the Patan Temple area. The room are big but a little old, the price-quality is ok. On the ground floor the wi-fi is working very well, food and laundry service are available. During the night is quite and you can sleep well! The staff doesen't speak much english and this is -maybe- the reason that they doesn't speak to much with the hotel guests.

If you are looking for a place that is super economical, unbelievably well located, staffed by a family that practically adopts you as one of their own, and a rooftop terrace with mountain views, this is your place. While there are only the basic creature comforts - and these days you'll be lucky if you have water and some electricity no matter where you stay in the country, since load-shedding is in effect for about 18 hours a day - people rarely go to a place like Nepal to sit in a room. I've been using the Guest House as my secondary base for years, even while visiting my family there, and wouldn't go anywhere else. If you are hungry, they will cook for you, no matter what the hour. If you need a hand in arranging other travel plans, they will do it all. The Guest House is right across from the Mahabuddha Temple and literally five minutes from Durbar Square, a UNESCO World Heritage Site packed with temples, museums, and other noteworthy areas. Nearby Sundhara offers street vendors and a variety of little shops for quick shopping. Tempos (tuk tuks) will take you almost anywhere you need to go for just a few rupees, including into Kathmandu. It's very basic, but wonderful!

Room Tip: The higher floors have a better view, and can more easily access the small garden terrace on the roo...
