Visitors are required to pay NRs. 250(Foreign Nationals) NRs. 50 (SAARC Nationals) NRs. 250 (Chinese) per person (Below 10 years free) as entrance fees to the Bouddhanath. A lot of Tibetan people reside around the Stupa. And it is very famous and holy place specially of Buddhists People. It is one of the most popular world heritage site of Nepal. 2,000 years old and with a top completed in the middle ages, the Boudhanath Stupa is a structure rich in history. Once again, having a local guide is worth having for checking this location out, as ours, Padme, provided a great explanation over the symbolism and history of the Stupa. I don't have much experience exploring Buddhist, Hindu, or Lamaism structures, so seeing all the prayer wheels ranging from two liter size to larger than a car standing on its bumper was a unique experience. The square is surrounded by many souvenir shops. My guide helped me pick out a handmade 800 gram singing bowl for 4000 rupees (about $40).

Boudhanath is one of the must visit places in Kathmandu. Its peaceful environment with the enchanting sounds of the Buddhist mantras really makes one feel calm and relaxed. This heavenly place looks more spectacular in the evening surrounded by the lights.
I always love visiting this amazing heritage :)

We avoided the birthday itself - and had a very quiet day with very few people. It seemed a little sterile.
Unfortunately we couldn't stay until evening.

Great vibes. make sure you stay overnight in Bhouda as you get to watch the pilgrams at all hours of the day walk around the stupa. there is heaps of fantastic people watching to do from sunrise to sunset, meditation classes, Pranamya yoga is a fantastic yoga studio which is 2 minutes walk from the stupa. great food- for really really cheap yummy nepali food try the '3D restaurant'
opposite the Mandala hotel, which is out the back of the alley from the green vegetarian cafe.
i recommend taking a walk to Kopan monastry in the Kapan district. a great 30/40 min walk to check out other towns and have a great vista from the kopan hill.
if you love GREAT COFFEE head for 2 places: however i forget their names! 1: i think its called the circle cafe. its a blue and white logo and the cafe is blue and white- amazing decor cool vibe and very new so support them! its just on the stupa circle coming from the main entrance on the right hand side.
2nd amazing coffee joint is a bright yellow painted hole in the wall type place directly opposite hotel PRK. huge variety of coffee and frappes and the lady is lovely.

Nice place, be prepare to pay extra if you have light skin! Saarc countries like India and Pakistan citizens get in for cheaper, Nepalis for free and if you even slightly resemble a white person be prepared to pay extra. This white buddhist racist tax allows you to enjoy the place...This is the first area where I've seen them sell alcohol right near a temple...everywhere...then again Alcohol is sold all over Nepal... but near a heritage site? Seriously?
