2,000 years old and with a top completed in the middle ages, the Boudhanath Stupa is a structure rich in history. Once again, having a local guide is worth having for checking this location out, as ours, Padme, provided a great explanation over the symbolism and history of the Stupa. I don't have much experience exploring Buddhist, Hindu, or Lamaism structures, so seeing all the prayer wheels ranging from two liter size to larger than a car standing on its bumper was a unique experience. The square is surrounded by many souvenir shops. My guide helped me pick out a handmade 800 gram singing bowl for 4000 rupees (about $40).
