“BUDDHA'S EYES”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

the legend says that long long ago a pious woman asked to a king so much land that she could cover with a buffalo skin.
the skin agreed,so the clever woman sliced the skin in so slim slices and cover so much land that she could build the stupa upon it.
Boudhanath stupa is the largest of its kind, and one of the most beautiful.
for the tibetans is one of the most holy places in the birthland of Buddha since centuries.
the care of the stupa ha always been a duty for them, and many tibetans live in the area.
for the tourists this is also known as "little Tibet",but the stuoa is a perfect work of newari art,and in the small chapel at the main entrance is possible to see the newari priests, even if the devotees touring around the holy monument are almost all tibetans.
the sight of the devotion ,especially in the evening,is wonderful and touching.
around the stupa there are interesting shops, now mostly overpriced or selling cheap stuff made in China, and nice small restaurants.
during the full moon nights and festivals the stupa is surrounded by small oil lamps ,the lights and the chanting of the mantras make a magic esperience.

“Great Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2013

This world heritage site is worth the time to visit. It is like an oasis in the middle of the hustle & bustle of a very busy Kathmandu. Suggest also visiting the Buddhist Thanka Centre which is one of the many places that encircles this famous Buddhist Stupa. One can see how these special artworks are made by the masters ... quite fascinating to see the dedication and patience involved.

“Must see, must do”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2013

you must see the Stupa and do the walk around it. it is relatively quiet compared to the rest of the city and there are many lovely shops around the stupa, some playing chants. You definitely get drawn into this atmosphere. There are some smaller temples around the plaza worth seeing as well. You can spend quite a bit of time here: contemplating, shopping, seeing, believing.

“Well worth spending a few hours here”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 5, 2013

I really enjoy this lovely temple. I expect that the best times to see it is early morning and late evening - when the lighting is gentler. I missed the full moon which would have been wonderful. I went in the middle of the day and it was still worthwhile. I recommend spending at least 2 hours here – time to walk around the temple, explore some the of the small stalls and also to take the time to enjoy one of the rooftop cafes. Sitting at one of these cafes allows you a quiet moment just to enjoy the temple and surrounding s. I had my taxi wait for me so took a round trip from my hotel to the temple. exploring the store is also very pleasant
