One of my favourite places in Kathmandu! You can climb the stupa and walk around on different levels and get different views of the location.
As soon as you get through the gate that separates the chaos and noise of Kathmandu from the peace around this enormous building, you realize the visit is worthwhile. The area around it is pedestrianized.
I loved those watchful eyes of Buddha’s (that attract you), the blessings, the smell of incense, the brightly coloured Tibetan dresses, the flags around the stupa, the guest houses, the restaurants & the souvenir shops around. All your senses are assailed and overwhelmed by the experience!
Walk around the stupa (clockwise of course!!). Enjoy Tibetan people walking kora (peregrination) turning the prayer wheels around the perimeter. Witness devoted religious people meditating and praying to the stupa. Admire all the little Nepali flags blowing in the wind. Listen to the soothing music coming from the Buddhist singing school. Turn the great prayer wheels. Experience this ancient monument and its Medieval feel!
One could just stare at the Stupa for hours and watch the world go by. Peaceful, enriching, relaxing, profoundly spiritual for people of all faiths. Good place to see something of the Buddhist culture of Nepal.
This World Heritage Site is something to experience for yourself rather than to describe (as pictures don't do justice to this attraction). Foreigners must pay admission fee.
A one of a kind experience! Well worth a visit. Very enjoyable. A spiritual and magical place, ideal to meditate and thank Nepal for places like this! An absolute must for spiritual seekers.
