One of my favourite places in Kathmandu. Lovely to sit and just people watch at any time of the day. Some lovely rooftop terrace restaurants to eat at.

The best way to describe this place is as an 'experience' rather than a brick and mortar place. Nothing much extraordinary here if you look at only the stupa. But take some time to delve into the experience you see the extraordinary. read the story on the internet of how this land was allotted to the old poultry woman and you understand better the belief systems at work here. Watch the devout pray to the stupa, do grueling sit ups of sorts while chanting their prayers. And listen to the soothing music wafting from the Buddhist singing school in the compound.

A World Heritage Site, this stupa has great significance for Buddhists and a walk around (clockwise) is highly recommended whether you are sightseeing or shopping or just wanting to experience an ancient monument.

The stupa is gorgeous! It was peaceful and a wondeful place in a crazy city to sit and meditate, people watch or just be.

There are lots of interesting shops around and you could walk up near the Stupa. It's the biggest Stupa in the world so it's worth having a look
