Bodnath is a great place to absorb Tibetan and Buddist culture. With pilgrims praying, monks chanting and Buddists (and others) rotating the prayer wheels surround the stupa. Find yourself a good seat on one of the roof top restaurants and just sit and watch. Best to come in the morning or later afternoon as there will be most people visiting for prayers etc.

In the very center of Kathmandu surrounded by nice restaurants and cosy shops. Especially the mandala shops and Lama Thanka center is nice to visit.

“1000 years of Mindfulness”
Reviewed May 17, 2013

You can just feel it. The peace and serenity of rounding the stupa as millions have done before. It's a must stop for me whenever I am in Kathmandu...I wouldn't miss it. Three rounds spinning prayer wheels, three rounds on the first level, and then lunch in a roof top garden overlooking...a recipe for a great day out in Kathmandu. It's also great to visit late in the afternoon when the sunlight gets low, the pilgrims come out to circumambulate, and the temperature drops from midday. Don't miss it!
