Asmita Bed & Breakfast

Asmitas B&B is a family run place. The rooms are big and really clean. Also the Toilett and shower are clean, the water always hot. The prince is really fair and the communication with the people there was easy.
The place is in walking distance (5-10min) to the inner part of Thamel and has got a few nice restaurants around.

Asmita B&B is a very nice pension in Thamel area, very well located. The room was spotless, they have a wonderful rooftop terrace and wifi also. Very special and kind family.

Unprepossessing from the outside, the B & B's proprietors, Asmita and Dharma, more than make up for this first with their warmth and generous hospitality. We were met at the airport (arranged through them) with flower garlands and tea as we checked in. Our room was spare but comfortable and spotlessly clean, as was the entire facility. We opted for the private bathroom, which is right outside the bedroom. The rooms face the street and it can be noisy - but this is often the case in Asia, so bring earplugs! The roofdeck is a nice place to have a drink (ice cubes made with bottled water are available from the kitchen), or even eat some street food. We had some great conversation up there with other guests from Belgium and Argentina - the place seems to attract thoughtful and curious travellers. Breakfast was OK, - just wish the coffee was brewed. Dharma can answer just about every question asked, as well as arrange excursions. A terrific value.

Room Tip: I'd opt for the only room with a private bathroom - not much extra, but you have to book early.

My husband and I stayed here 3 nights during our trip to Nepal and appreciated the warm hospitality of Asmita and her family. Overall, it's an excellent place to stay - very clean and comfortable, and in an excellent location. We had a private bathroom located in the hallway outside of the bedroom. Had a few awkward run-ins with Asmita's family and other guests because of that, but overall the Puigiscalm Room (the name of our room) was very nice and comfortable. We both had issues sleeping... the room overlooks the street and each night we were woken up by traffic and dogs barking. The hospitality was wonderful, the wifi had a strong signal, breakfast was pretty good, and it was a great place to retire to after the hustle and bustle of Kathmandu.

Traveling with two girls (6 and 9) makes you feel very concerned about safety and cleanliness. We found both, and much more at Asmita B&B; it is not only spotless, safe, quiet and peaceful (which is nice in the very busy Thamel), but also, the Rai family really takes care of you, good food, dedicated attention... excellent!!
Special mention to the gorgeous rest you have in their clean beds with good matresses!

A friend and I stayed at Asmita B&B at the end of a three-week trip and were quite pleased with it. We splurged and booked a room with a private bathroom, which I believe cost us about $25. The hotel is located in Thamel, on a small but busy street full of shops and restaurants (it's about a block away from the Thamel House restaurant, which is fabulous!). The taxi had some difficulty finding it, but all it took was a couple of phone calls (and one of the staff hanging out of the window and waving to the driver) to straighten things out. The building is tall and narrow, as most buildings are in Kathmandu, which means you have to climb a lot of stairs to get to your room, but the views are lovely.

There was only one thing that was . . . a little inconvenient or not entirely ideal. The private bathroom is not en suite (the web site never said it was, I just assumed). Each bedroom has a name, and the private bathrooms have the same name as the room to which they are associated. This should work if everyone obeys the signs, but it doesn't always. On more than one occasion, the other tenants on our floor either were in the bathroom when one of us needed it, or tried to come in when one of us was using it. Not a huge deal in the grander scheme of things.

All in all, the Asmita B&B is fantastic. Quieter than most places in the Thamel area, beautifully run by a welcoming family, conveniently located in an interesting area, equipped with comfortable and clean rooms, and cheaper than any place this fantastic should be.

Room Tip: Request a room with a private bathroom.

Located in the heart of Thamel this 4 room B&B is a great place to start your day. Breakfast is included and the staff is great. The rooms were spotless, we stayed in the Everest room on the top floor which included a private bathroom and a nice outdoor patio that overlooked the city.
