“Great food in a lovely setting (particularly if you like chipmunks...)”

The food in this place is good, but the setting makes it extra special. I had a grilled chicken, cheese and tomato sandwich - good flavours, moist chicken and plenty of filling. Sitting watching the chipmunks chase each other up and down trees was an added bonus. It's relatively expensive for Kathmandu but then it's run by Dwarika's hotel, so that's no surprise. Recommended.

The main attraction of this restaurant is that it is inside the grounds of the lovely Garden of Dreams. The restaurant itself is nicely appointed but the main dining areas are often closed for private functions and the secondary dining area is average in terms of atmosphere. The food is nice, but it is far too pricey for the quality - its also prudent to bear in mind that you pay 200 NRP per person to enter the Garden of Dreams which can make the Kaiser Cafe an expensive outing. You can get the same quality/quantity of food in a restaurant in Thamel for 1/3rd of the price. I feel like this restaurant was once one of the best in Kathmandu but quality has definitely slipped and it is carried only by its prime location.

The setting is beautiful, in one of the most peaceful locations in Kathmandu, the Garden of Dreams.

The food is good though relatively more expensive than nearby restaurants in Thamel.

The restaurant (under the management of 5* Dwarikas Hotel) is set in the beautiful gardens of an old Rana palace close to the Royal Palace and Thamel. The location is beautiful and a peaceful retreat from the noise and chaos of the streets outside the walls. You will be charged a fee to enter the garden. Sadly, the food is not always up to standard and the service can be painfully slow. Overpriced but worth a visit if you have plenty of time and probably best for lunch or tea when you can also enjoy the gardens.

First of all, the location is marvellous. Inside the Garden of Dreams in central Kathmandu - one of the most beautiful gardens in the world....yes really!
For lunch and tea-time, the cafe/restaurant is perfect even though over priced but our visit for dinner on Christmas Eve was rather disappointing. Food was OK, but the service was not up to standard for the price and to top it all it was almost empty although we were told earlier that they were almost fully booked for the evening.
But, in any case, do visit the Garden of Dreams and quench your thirst with a hot lemon tea at the Kaiser Cafe.
