Hotel Silver Home is the best budget option for all types visiting Kathmandu. The hotel is in a prime location in central Thamel, a short walk to Durbar Square and Ratna Park and tucked off the noisy main street. My partner and I needed internet for our time in Nepal and Silver Home has a quick connection that stays on even during power outages. We stayed for about three months total at the hotel and were really happy with our experience. We recommend the rooms facing the front of the building, as they have the most light and are quieter. Overall, you are bound to be satisfied with your stay here. The hot water is piping and consistent and the staff is exceptional. The hotel manager Mr. Lama helped us a lot during our three months in Nepal. If you need help with directions, bus or plane tickets he is a helpful and reliable person to book with. Hotel Silver caters to professionals and backpackers alike. There are plenty of great rooms (freshly painted!) and also a dormitory, which is likely the cheapest option in all of Thamel. You will be hard-pressed to find a hotel better than this one.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the entrance are sunnier and quieter. Also, rooms lower down tend to get a faster inter...

A budget hotel in a convenient location for visiting many of the attractions in Kathmandu. Situated in the centre of Thamel but on a quiet back street, Durbar Square, The Monkey Temple and many other attractions are easily accessible by foot. The staff were friendly, honest and knowledgeable and always ready to offer advice and book what we wanted. They stored luggage at no extra cost when we had a few days in Pokhara. When we needed to leave early they also served us breakfast out of the normal times and likewise when we booked an Everest Flight they got up at 4.40 to wake us to ensure we didn't miss it. The rooms are basic but clean and obviously the electricity cuts which appear to be widespread throughout the country does mean that at times some inconvenience will be experienced but this is totally outside the hotel's hands. There is a constant supply of very hot water. Obviously, if you want luxury try the Ritz (and pay for it). We wanted a base only and it certainly met all of our expectations in that respect and we are planning to return.

Room Tip: Ones on the first floor have better internet access.

The rooms were terrible! They smelled bed and they were very dark!
Hot water is there only a few hours per day and internet is working only sometimes!!! and for a few hours per day!
No brights rooms and also lauded music came from nearest hotels until night time!
The stuff was not organizes, they make overbooking to send you in others cheapest and eaven worse hotels and take the money from you at the same price of their rooms!
They booked taxis and charge you a lot eaven for shortly rides, and than they forget eaven to call the taxis you booked and paied to them in advace....
Very bad places...
they do the free pick up service from the airport but than they ask you to sleep there a higher fee compared to other better hotels in thamel so it is not a free pick up service!!!
You can find better places, quiter with a nice, quick and WAKED UP staff, for cheaper prices ...in the middle of thamel and in quite places! Just look for it!

The staff were very helpful and friendly. They were very willing to assist you with anything you needed, and allowed myself and others to store luggage while we were away trekking. Although Kathmandu suffers from power outages, the dorm room of this building sometimes had no power while the rest of the building did. A slight annoyance was the construction that was going on in parts of the building. Cleanliness of the dorm room was acceptable for Asia.

We actually booked at the Hotel Silver Home on the Internet and when we arrived were told we would be staying next door at the Discovery hotel. Maybe the rooms at the Silver are nicer...? The price and location are really what is good about this place. Just remember if you are paying $11 per night you need to have an $11 expectation. Our room was fine, the bathroom was very rundown, but there was a toilet and shower. Again, not sure about the Silver hotel but at the Discovery each day there is a power outage that lasts a few hours - there was no back up generator so make sure you have your torch to hand!
There is a small garden with tables and chairs where you can sit and relax. The actual hotel is set back from the Main Street so is nice and quiet.
