AGH is undoubtably the best Address in Thamel !!

This lovely 18 room boutique hotel is tucked in the middle of the hustle bustle of crowded streets of the most happening part of Kathmandu - THAMEL

I was very pleasantly surprised with the quality of food, service, staff & my overall experience is one which has certainly set new benchmarks for boutique properties of the kind.

The hotel arranged everything beautifully & I strongly recommend it to all those who insist on 'Value for Money'. It can't get better ...

Will most certainly return for another memorable stay ... Thank you Prakash & Naveen

Location is great as it is just five steps away from Thamel .
You have almost everything within walking distance from the hotel.

Rooms:-
1. Comfortable beds.
2. Great hot and cold shower
3. Clean room
4. Good Wifi but I think they switched off in the middle of the night

Okay breakfast so don't expect much.
Prices are on a slightly higher side if compared with others.

Tips:-
Get taxi services yourself.
You should be get about US$5 to US$8 ride to the airport after some negotiations with the taxi drivers.

Room Tip: Get windows facing the garden.

I stayed at this beautiful, well located property from Dec11-18 2012. I had read a lot of reviews about this property on TripAdvisor and decided to give it a try.

At the time of check-in, I was upgraded without even asking, due to availability of a better room! So the stay started well. The owner Prakash met me the next day was gracious enough to invite me to dinner with his friends, and the food was delicious.

Service at AGH is very quick, every one knows you, greets you and makes sure you are comfortable. And since the hotel is quite small - only 18 rooms, you kind of get to know the other travelers, which makes the stay all more pleasant. All in all, a great experience at AGH and will surely make this my goto place during my visits to Kathmandu.

The hotel has its old world charm - with antique pieces from a previous generation, all kept for the observant eye.

Any complaints? - well, only one - the shower was a royal pain - trying to get the hot and cold combination right, tested my patience :)

Our first time in Kathmandu we stayed at the Kantipur Temple House. I insisted that our return stay be at the Ambassador Garden Hotel because of the wonderful Trip Advisor reviews. What I have learned is that reviews on TA depend completely on what the travel reveiwer is used to in terms of accommodation. Back packers returning from a trek will find the AGH a palace. Those coming from another hotel may find the AGH wanting in many areas -- as we did. To call this a boutique hotel must be a reference to the small size, both of the rooms and the hotel. We found nothing else about this place "boutique". Our room was on the second floor, facing the tiny garden in the back where breakfast is served and people congregate to chat and relax. This means that at 7 a.m. the noise begins with voices and the clanking of dishes and cultery. If you want to get up at 7, that's fine, but if you have been kept awake at night by the thump of music through the walls from nearby discos and bars, as well as the rattle of the enormous (and very attractive to be sure) metal locks on all the room doors, perhaps it isn't so fine. Our room was so small it had no place to put a second suitcase except on the floor by the entrance to the bathroom. At night this was a hazard. The bathroom was very, very small with hot water that happened after 8 minutes of running the water (we timed it) and was plentiful, but oh, such a wasteful eight minutes. The room was clean but with a mildew smell--the bathroom as well. The decor was dingy and a bit worn. The stairs were steep and right outside our room so we heard people tramping up and down throughout the night and in the early morning. It was NOT a restful place to stay. Lighting was also very dim and reading at night was impossible.

Breakfast was good and served by friendly staff in the tiny garden. The location is smack in the middle of the "action" and we were able to walk everywhere, but the same is true of many other hotels in the area some of which are nicer and cheaper than the AGH. The hotel did provide water which we found to be of good quality. This was a plus, but is true of most hotels in Kathmandu these days. We did not have much interaction with the office staff, but did find the young man on sentry duty to be friendly and helpful. It was nice having a supermarket next door and shops across the street, but if I come back to Kathmandu I won't stay here. I'll go back to our first hotel any day.

Room Tip: Rooms on the front are VERY NOISY from bars and discos. Rooms on the inside facing the very tiny ga...

We stayed at Ambassador Garden Home in December 2012. The room was nice and the bed was very comfortable. Shower gives nice hot water with good pressure. Complementary tea, beer, juice, water and fruit was nice touch. Nearby bars played loud music at night but otherwise the place is very quiet. We loved the breakfast! Nice bread, eggs, potatoes, sausage or ham. In December it was a bit cold in the morning and I made sure to sit close to the heater. But our room was nice in warm with aircon.
We went to other part of Nepal and came back few days later. We felt so at home when we came back to this hotel and had nice welcome drink. Staff are friendly and helpful. We love to stay at this hotel again if we have chance to go back to Nepal.

Room Tip: We stayed on the second floor and the forth floor. Both are fine, but maybe shower has slightly more...

We stayed here for a couple of nights at the end of November. The hotel was very comfortable and full of character. Breakfasts were plentiful and delicious. However what impressed us most of all were the helpful, cheerful staff who always greated us with a smile

The rooms were comfortable. The location is the best in Thamel, right in the center in the middle of excellent shopping, restaurants and bars. It is also a 15 minute walk to Durbar Square and other sights.

I can confirm the request of 5% if paying by credit card. It is best to pay in US dollars so that you can pay the room rate that is offered in US dollars.

The shower was a bit on the smallish side. The staff were very friendly, and the breakfasts were good.
