We stayed in AGH for 2 nights in November before going 2 Chitwan and Trekking. AGH offers free water on arrival. Me and my wife got sick from probably drinking this water :the Brand is Himalaya Top.My wife had noticed a strong smell coming from this bottle, yet the seal was intact. In the Hospital the doctor told us ,that there are no controls and that he would rcommend the Aqua 100 Brand instead.
I spoke to the Hotel Manager about it and he said, that there were no problems with this water as of yet in his Hotel.
We had a DE LUXE Room which we found a bit small for what we paid for.We paid around 75 dollars per night including taxes. They have a back-up generator, which is really good as the power is shut off a lot in Kathmandu. The staff is friendly and it's reasonably clean. If you like to stay in Thamel ,this is a good place. To us it didn't matter as we were dealing with our health issues in the Hospital mostly.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review regarding HIMALAYAS ON TOP WATER, this is the most hygienic spring drinking water in Nepal.
Himalyas spring water ONTOP originates at the Langtang mountain range 24000 ft above sea level .ONTOP is naturally filtered through the Himalyan bedrocks & bottling quality controls consistently exceed WHO standards.Tests by FDA have confirmed that the quality of Himalyas Spring Water is so high that comparisons with current market standards are meaningless.
For more details : http://www.himalayaswater.com/

"GUESTS' HEALTH IS OUR GREAT CONCERNED " .

That is why, we have forwarded your complaint to Himalayas on top company.

The water AUQA 100 which you have mentioned , we use for tea & coffee , but the HIMALAYAS ON TOP is 4 times more expensive than AUQA 100 , we are very much concerned about health.

we are extremely sorry for your inconvenience .

warm Regards,

Prakash Lamichhane

We were novices in Nepal and flew in on 5 Dec 2012. At the airport, a man walked from the pre-paid taxi counter and asked where we wanted to go. We said Ambassador Garden Home in Thamel. He said he could get us there. We said 300rp and he said no problem. The moment we got into the car so did another man get into the front passenger seat (alarm bells should have sounded) but before we could ask him who he was the driver drove us off. That man was a guide and he had the cheek to give us his name card. He said the ride to Thamel was 300rp each! We said no. We had said 300rp for the TRIP. We were two females in a foreign land. When we reached AGH we refused to pay him and explained to the General Manager our situation. I don't know what he said or did but he settled the situation for us and we paid 300rp. It was 2 contrasting introduction to Nepal and we were glad for the GM. He is such a steady figure there and we were so grateful for his presence.

The hotel is really like a home. The bedroom was clean and the beds were very good to sleep on. The standard room is a bit small so take the deluxe if you have spare cash. The hotel is close to everything!

I have stayed at this hotel twice and can't recommend it enough. It really is fantastic to have this peaceful and friendly oasis in wonderful but chaotic Kathmandu. The staff are exceptionally friendly - from the owner Prakesh and managers, to the guy at the door who always has a cheerful smile, as well as reception staff, cleaners and cooks. They are always offering to help and make sure that guests are happy. The rooms are tasteful and 100% clean and beds are comfy. In winter they place a hot water bottle under the covers - there are many such little touches which makes staying at AGH such a delight.
After staying at the hotel in 2010 we used their trekking agency for our trip to Annapurna base camp in Nov 2012. The organisation was perfect - we were met at the airport by a friendly driver in a lovely clean car, provided with complimentary drinks on arrival, met with our guide and porter etc etc . The trekking company had made all of the arrangements for us so that after arriving we could go out and enjoy kathmandu before leaving the following morning for the trek. Prakesh called us a few times during the trek to make sure that we were happy with everything and on arrival back to Kathmandu he hosted a delicious traditional Nepali meal and gave us framed certificates - completion of the ABC trek and took photos of the occasion. I would stay at AGH every time and will use the trekking agency (the manager Jaevan is lovely) for my next trek; thoroughly recommended.

We stayed our last night in Nepal at the Ambassador Garden Hotel. After staying in tea houses while trekking, as well as other "4 & 5 star" hotels and resorts around Nepal, our only requirement was a hot shower (we hadn't had a decent shower in 3 weeks). This hotel has the BEST hot shower in all Nepal. It also has the most comfortable bed, beautiful decor, fantastic peaceful setting just metres from the bustle of Thamel, free WiFi, detailed extras in the room, and owner and staff who are so friendly and helpful and justly proud of their hotel that made our stay perfect...Our only regret is that we didn't stay longer in this hotel.

Was in Nepal for 6 weeks for a few different treks. Each time I went back to Kathmandu between treks, I stayed at Ambassador Garden.
The Good - Excellent staff. Very friendly folks that are so willing to assist you. Everyone from the security staff to the restaurant staff were amazing. The rooms are much nicer than the average Kathmandu hotel and there is always hot water and electricity. Wifi went out a few times but was mostly on which was awesome. The beds were comfy and the linens were excellent compared to the trekking beds we were used to sleeping on.
The Awesome - The food was way better here at their in-house restaurant than it was at most restaurants we went to. I fell in love with the Tomato Soup which was homemade with garlic and onions. The breakfasts were excellent and so quick. Coffee was great.
The Bad - nothing to complain about at all really. If I were to suggest one improvement to Ambassador, it would be to get better tv's in the room. Flat Screens. The tv's that are in the rooms are super tiny and old. But who wants to watch tv anyways while you are on vacation.

Tips: Try and reserve rooms on the 2nd floor and facing the garden courtyard. The garden courtyard is such a blessing in crazy Kathmandu. You can relax and read and not hear the outside noise.

Also try the restaurant across the street, La Dolce Vita. Best pizza in town!

Thanks to everyone at Ambassador for making me feel right at home. Well done!

I stayed here for 5 nights before and after my EBC trek. This boutique hotel is in the very heart of Thamel, which is the tourist center of Kathmandu. Trekking in Nepal can be exhausting, and this place is exactly what I need after 12 days of tough walk on the high Himalayas. Thamel center is very noisy with its narrow street and traffic, but the hotel is amazingly quit and peaceful. Once you step into its lobby and garden, you will know the difference immediately. It's an Oasis. What's more important is: this hotel has a soul, and it reflects in its sincere and helpful staff. The hotel owner, Mr. Prakash Lamichhane, is an extremely friendly and kind person. I was invited to diner with him and one of his friend, and we had a very interesting long discussion about life and one's spiritual journey. The food in the hotel is delicious.

Lovely hotel, great location and wonderful staff! Loads of activity just outside the front door and yet quiet and relaxed inside, breakfast was served in the courtyard and was a nice way to start the day . Highly recommend this is your place to stay in Kathmandu!
