Ambassador Garden Home
Ranked #32 of 210 Hotels in Kathmandu
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed December 6, 2012

Was in Nepal for 6 weeks for a few different treks. Each time I went back to Kathmandu between treks, I stayed at Ambassador Garden.
The Good - Excellent staff. Very friendly folks that are so willing to assist you. Everyone from the security staff to the restaurant staff were amazing. The rooms are much nicer than the average Kathmandu hotel and there is always hot water and electricity. Wifi went out a few times but was mostly on which was awesome. The beds were comfy and the linens were excellent compared to the trekking beds we were used to sleeping on.
The Awesome - The food was way better here at their in-house restaurant than it was at most restaurants we went to. I fell in love with the Tomato Soup which was homemade with garlic and onions. The breakfasts were excellent and so quick. Coffee was great.
The Bad - nothing to complain about at all really. If I were to suggest one improvement to Ambassador, it would be to get better tv's in the room. Flat Screens. The tv's that are in the rooms are super tiny and old. But who wants to watch tv anyways while you are on vacation.

Tips: Try and reserve rooms on the 2nd floor and facing the garden courtyard. The garden courtyard is such a blessing in crazy Kathmandu. You can relax and read and not hear the outside noise.

Also try the restaurant across the street, La Dolce Vita. Best pizza in town!

Thanks to everyone at Ambassador for making me feel right at home. Well done!

I stayed here for 5 nights before and after my EBC trek. This boutique hotel is in the very heart of Thamel, which is the tourist center of Kathmandu. Trekking in Nepal can be exhausting, and this place is exactly what I need after 12 days of tough walk on the high Himalayas. Thamel center is very noisy with its narrow street and traffic, but the hotel is amazingly quit and peaceful. Once you step into its lobby and garden, you will know the difference immediately. It's an Oasis. What's more important is: this hotel has a soul, and it reflects in its sincere and helpful staff. The hotel owner, Mr. Prakash Lamichhane, is an extremely friendly and kind person. I was invited to diner with him and one of his friend, and we had a very interesting long discussion about life and one's spiritual journey. The food in the hotel is delicious.

Lovely hotel, great location and wonderful staff! Loads of activity just outside the front door and yet quiet and relaxed inside, breakfast was served in the courtyard and was a nice way to start the day . Highly recommend this is your place to stay in Kathmandu!

Stayed here two nights both pre and post a 14-day trek. Very spacious and elegantly furnished.

Staff were extremely friendly and helpful in every regard: provided with a smile early break fast, packed breakfast, storage of luggage of two weeks. Manger remembered our names!

Right in the heart of trekker central - Thamel.

Not a lot of rooms but thus not a n overload of guests either.

Electricity back up and lots of hot water - lovely.

We are a young couple and stayed here for 3 days during our holiday in Kathmandu, and it was a very pleasant stay here. I will summarise the main points of the stay below:

Location: was excellent, in the heart of Thamel but due to the location of the building, it is not so noisy or busy, with always an abundence of taxis outside the hotel. There is a great supermarket and bakery next door to stock up on anything you need. It is also close distance to all the sights in Kathmandu.

Staff: were very friendly, spoke excellent English and was helpful with any sightseeing questions. They seem to be always around no matter how early in the morning, and helped with getting taxis and any general questions.

Rooms: for Kathmandu standard our room was very comfortable. Decent size bed with AC in the rooms which is important when it gets very cold here in the evening and early mornings. We had no problems with power cuts during our stay here. 24 hour hot water for the shower which was a luxury in Nepal! I have given 4 instead of 5 stars mainly because the rooms were quite dated and could be brighter, but that's my only gripe from a quite fussy traveller!

Would recommend here as a base during your visit to Kathmandu

We stayed here for 3 nights , as we arrived we were welcome by the hotel staff with fresh fruits and canned juices to drink , the lobby was small but cosy .. There's up to dates magazines to read , free wifi and 2 computer to use .. This place is located in the hustle and bustle of Thamel street , it's in a good location where bookstore , grocery , souvenir , money exchange all within walking distance .. Our room is pretty compact so is the toilet ..breakfast was great serve a la carte at the garden of the hotel .. Service was friendly with a smile always .

We went with one more family with kids to Nepal trip for 10 days. We stayed their for 2 days at start of trip and one day after end of trip. Owner is excellent he personally looks after hotel. It is small hotel with small kitchen. Kitech staff is good and breakfast is excellent. Choices are limited but good food quality. Most of clients seems to be from Western countries. It is very good experience to live in busy downtown in such nice hotel. All restaurants are nearby and there are many spas nearby.

Room Tip: Go for bigger room you get more space for chairs and coffee table.
