The bedroom i had was satisfactory but the hostel is not as clean as implied in the reviews. Khem the manager, was very keen for me to write my review in his presence and i just don't like the way i felt under pressure. It didn't have a genuine feel about it as other hostels have and i didn't feel he was as helpful as the reviews stated unless you were buying tours from him, if you suggested you wanted to look around he was obviously disgruntled. The noise overnight was quite loud, i could barely sleep and the linen was a bit stained. I chose to stay elsewhere on my return which was a better choice.

Pros: good garden and great views from terraces. Although not in Thamel it is a close enough walk.

An excellent place to stay in Kathmandu! The owner is an amazing guy - he speaks great English, is very helpful with organizing any part of your trip and he even came to meet us at the airport on our second time staying there.

The beautiful garden outside provides an escape from the busy Kathmandu streets and is a great place to hang out, eat breakfast and catch up internet time. The hostel was clean, had good bathrooms, hot showers, wifi works great and a hot breakfast included.

This is a great place to base yourself around trekking and safari trips. It has a lovely garden and several balconies which are as close to a relaxing retreat as you will find so close to Thamel (though don't expect total peace and quiet, nothing can block out those horns). The staff are very helpful and friendly, and even cooked us our big free breakfast without question when we woke up jetlagged at 1pm. Baggage storage, laundry, airport taxi and other services as expected.

In crazy, dusty, magical Kathmandu, this was a haven, as soon as the gates were closed you arrive to a lovely garden dinning area. We were there on new years- so it was pretty noisy this night understandably.

Each room is simple but fine and has a shared terrace which we loved to talk with other colourful guests at night before dinner.

The owner is a stand out, and so over the top helpful with anything we needed, he even insisted on pushing our broken down motorbike 3 km back to the hotel!
Highly recommend for the budget traveler.

Two mates and i stayed at Elbrus in February 2012 for three days and two nights before we continued on our trip throughout Nepal and India. All three of us found Elbrus a perfect place to stay for our first few nights in a new country.

What really makes us hold this place in such high regard is the service the owners provided. Nothing beat waking up to a great breakfast whilst reclining in the rooftop, overlooking Thamel and seeing the mountains frame the Kathmandu Valley. We were recommended several day trips, and a taxi was promptly provided for us. When I lost my credit card *sigh* at Bhaktapur Square and was not able to contact my bank on short notice, the owner (cannot remember his name; champion of a bloke though) allowed me to use his mobile to make an overseas call free of charge. A perfect example of customer service.

It is conveniently located in the heart of Thamel, close to many shops, restaurants and tourist locations. Small cosy rooms and great place to meet fellow wayfarers. NOTE: I have read several negative reviews here; I must remind these people as well as potential travellers that this is not a rich country and travellers should not expect 5 star luxuries. Negative reviews need a cold shower and awakeup call. Elbrus home delivers excellent service, a great location and a fantastic basepoint to start off on your adventure.

Great place, would absolutely stay here again without hesitation.

A great guest house in a good location. What makes this place special is the brother owners Khem and Ali and also the great value when you consider the perfect breakfast that you get.

We were collected from the airport by Ali (which was cheaper than a taxi) and made to feel at home immediately.

We met Khem when we arrived and he quite simply said "let me know if there is anything that I can do for you" and did help with anything that we needed.

Great guys, great place and we had no hesitation on going back when we arrived back into Kathmandu after our trek and we were very happy to be met by Khem.

Room Tip: Remember that you'll be getting a great breakfast as part of the price when comparing to other p...

I stayed in Elbrus Home for over a week in March while I was in Kathmandu and I can absolutely recommend it. The three different rooms I stayed in where all comfortable and clean. There is an amazing garden were delicious breakfast is served every morning. The people who work there are just lovely and helped me out with everything I needed (transport, trips, advice). I spent a lot of time there just hanging out and it was very relaxing. The location is perfect, right next to Thamel.
I also met a lot of nice people there everyday and there is a very social atmosphere.
Warm showers, internet, a computer, many books and a very cute white fluffy dog, what else do you need? If I would go to Kathmandu again I would definitely go to Elbrus Home again!

Room Tip: If you're a light sleeper avoid a room that faces the street. But even better bring earplugs as...
