“Good place if you have low expectations”
Reviewed March 29, 2013

We stayed here for our sins for a few night before joining a tour, the picture do not reflect the current state of the hotel, we also requested collection from the airport and the car at the airport was shockingly small and not big enough for us and two backpacks, but they resolved this quickly by getting another car, but it was falling apart and not able to cope well with the poor roads. On arrival there was building work and dust at the front desk, no real restaurant , dust was everywhere.. They did try and get us to have breakfast , which we politely refused, rooms are very basic, and mental colours, But bathrooms were very clean, there was noise all night from dogs , music from the surrounding area not hotels fault really, but glass in the windows instead of just mesh may help.

For people on a budget it's maybe ok, but you do get what you pay for !

This is a good Guesthouse in Thamel.
The location is great, less than a 1 minute walk into the main area of Thamel
down a quite side street. Rooms are clean good size, specially bathrooms.
The staff were also really friendly and helpful.

The Acme Guest House is a great sea of tranquility amid the chaos of Thamel. I had a basic room, which was acceptable, but not great. I think they were in the middle of some upgrades, and had yet to get to my room. The shared bathroom, however, was in good shape and the water was hot. I looked into some of the en-suite rooms and they were a lot nicer and had views out over the front lawn. My view out the back was of a brick wall.

For the price of the hotel, however, I don't think I could have expected much more. Thamel is crawling with budget hotels, and you won't have any problems staying at this one. The staff can help you with whatever problems you have and they can set up anything for you. But I'm sure that's true of any hotel in the area.

Basically the hotel was nothing special, but I was happy with my stay here and would probably stay here again if and when I return to Nepal.

I booked this guesthouse online prior to arriving in Kathmandu and an airport transfer. The Airport Transfer was so great, even though my plane was delayed for many hours, they still picked me up on time and got me to the hotel. The hotel offers a series of room types with attached and shared bathrooms. I booked a room with a shared bathroom and after a few days in Kathmandu, realised that there were rooms available in the central district of Thamel with private bathrooms for the same price.

Overall this hotel was nice, it had a lovely garden and the staff were friendly and wi-fi was ok, but definitely be mindful that you can get a better deal elsewhere not listed online.

Room Tip: Great hotel but definitely more available in the area that offer better value and more central.

The advantages of this little guest house are its location in busy Thamel with great access to shopping restaurants etc., very friendly and helpful staff and the garden. It has all the challenges of Nepal - power cuts, unreliable wifi and sometimes cold showers but these are beyond most proprieters' control. The bathrooms need a good clean : ( and the pillows are like rocks but we enjoyed our stay despite these inconveniences.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden facing room with A/C (for when the power is on!)

Stayed here after booking on line, friend recommended garden facing room, $35 a night. Room was clean tidy and in a good decor. Sun trap balcony and good wifi. Lots of power cuts however this is a problem throughout Nepal, generator worked well though.
It is literally a stone throw away from Tom and Jerry pub and the rest of the madness, however you do feel away from it all when you turn off the road and into Acme Gardens. I was aware that some of the rooms are not up to scratch, but from what I could see all the garden facing rooms were light airy and comfortable.

Don't count on getting the room you see in the photos...especially if you arrive late at night.
I was ushered into a room that had torn curtains, stained carpet, threadbare linens, chipped paint and exposed wiring. The bathroom looked as if it hadn't been cleaned in months: black residue in the toilet, mildewed tile, and dirty porcelain sink. I asked to see other rooms and none were available. This is a case where a pre-paid room is a trick to get your money without giving you what you paid for. The night manager chatted with friend just outside my room for at least half an hour despite my midnight check-in and attempt to get sleep. Hard beds...harder pillows.

Room Tip: Arrive early in the day.
