“Food is good, but ambience is awful as is service”
Reviewed June 6, 2013

The food is tasty, although very expensive by Nepal standards. However the services atrocious. They forget orders, and literally ten young men hover you as you are eating, seemingly with nothing to do and making it very uncomfortable for customers. Waiters should not be literally standing over your shoulder during a meal. Amazingly, despite this over capacity of employees, they are very late with orders (10 minutes for a cup of coffee!) and even forget one of my orders. The techno music is so out of place for a loungey restaurant, it's ludicrous and makes relaxing here impossible. It appears the many young men milling around play what they want to hear to amuse themselves as there is nothing for them todo (aside from staring at you).

Many good places to eat in Thamel so this place is best avoided.

“A den of thieves”
Reviewed May 31, 2013

There are "tourist traps" and then there is the Roadhouse Cafe. It is far worse.

PLEASE do not confuse this terrible cafe with its well known and very reputable namesake in Thamel.

Aside from having misrepresented its pricing (which was high), the establishment set a new low standard in trying to pass off an opened bottle of water as unopened. When I refused to pay for the previously opened bottle, they gave me a "song and dance" that was impressive if not insulting. Then, as I paid for my other items (after complaining about the unmentioned service fees and change in prices), they tried to keep the cost of the opened bottle.

DO NOT waste time climbing the stairs to this place.

Really great wood fired pizza - a nice treat after weeks of Nepali food. Atmosphere is excellent and staff is friendly. Great place.

“Great pizza”

If you're craving a tasty pizza in a comfy atmosphere, Roadhouse is a good bet. They have four locations including Patan and Bouddha too.

“Haven from the madding crowd”
Reviewed May 19, 2013 via mobile

As reliable as ever, the Roadhouse is a beacon of calm.. From the music to the smiling waiters.. It's a chance to step away from Thamel for a while and relax. The coffee is very good .. Haven't found any better in Nepal.. The wood fired pizzas are great because they actually taste like pizza.. Not trekking pizza. If Hawaiian is your thing.. Strap in for a good one.
Sunnyside breakfast is great.
Sure.. The service could be faster.. Yes, there's cheaper places around.
But for a quiet, coffee, drink or pizza at any time of day.. It beats the rest hands down.
