“Good Hotel, good food”

We stayed here 2 nights while on tour in Bhutan. Our room was on the 4th floor (no elevator) and after hiking to the Tiger's Nest our legs were sore to be climbing stairs. Rooms were nice and clean. Location is great- lots within easy walking distance. We ate breakfast and dinner here and the food was always good. We had laundry done and it was a little on the expensive side. Shower was lovely. Wifi in the rooms. Only downside and its not a fault of the hotel but the dogs in Thimphu are insanely loud. In all my travels it was the worst here. Bring some ear plugs and you'll be fine!!

Not a bad Thimpu hotel but located in a very noisy area particularly with lots of dogs roaming around at night and barking too. Some traffic noise as located on a busy road junction so keep the window shut. The room was good and clean and bathroom excellent. Unfortunately the hotel only has wooden stairs to upper floors and no lift but this appeared to be the norm in Bhutan. Very noisy slamming room doors. Our dinners in the restaurant were excellent in particular the Shepherds Pie. Breakfast though very disappointing and not much choice. Staff friendly and location good for exploration of Thimpu.

The hotel is situated in a very good location. Staffs are very courteous with great hospitality overall. Restaurant is good. From room this was very good view of outside. Only the problem is from its WiFi connectivity from room which required to be upgraded.

This is a well-located modern hotel in the middle of Thimphu. I recommend it for the efficient staff, good buffet breakfast and other meals and the facilities. Even though its in a busy part of town, the heavy glass doors shut out all sounds and you can have a peaceful night's rest. The wifi in the room works reasonably well. The hotel has few rooms so book early. It is pretty good value for money. This hotel does not have its own parking but there are ample slots nearby. The rooms have their own tea and coffee service. Staff is pleasant and room service is prompt.

Room Tip: Take a room on the upper floors to get a view of the town

This is one great little hotel smack right in the middle of Thimphu, literally I could see the famous traffic police box from my window! Needless to say the town square, restaurants, cafes and shops are all within walking distance.

The room I got was really comfortable with a big double bed, cable tv and an awesome bathroom. A kettle and complimentary tea bags are provided as well. I really like the classy ambiance and had a really good night's rest at this hotel, never noticed the famous barking dogs of Thimphu at all...

Besides the room, the staff are quite friendly and always courteous. Laundry service price is fair.

Saving the best for last, the restaurant at this hotel is simply marvelous. I had all my dinners here and I don't regret it one bit. The traditional Bhutanese food and Indian food prepared are to die for! The Continental or English breakfast are also hearty and quite delicious.

I love Bhutan and if I ever return I would definitely stay here again!

This hotel (not sure why TA has it listed under B&B), is a nice little place. I believe they do have rooms on the main floor but we were on the second floor with no elevator. For those who don't like stairs you should check in advance. We were given twin beds instead of the double we had asked for but we didn't ask to change rooms. The first night they prepared a "buffet" for just us and they brought us plates upon plates of so many different things we had to ask them to stop as we couldn't possibly have eaten it all. The beds were reasonably comfortable and I was pleasantly surprised as I had heard nightmares about the hard beds throughout Bhutan. The room had a window that opened but as per most other comments, yes, the dogs do bark all night so you really do need to keep it closed and wear earplugs! The outside of the hotel has a nice outside seating area. You can easily walk around town from the hotel although we didn't have much time to do that. We had several meals here and they were all good. Sometimes our orders were not clearly understood but we made do - not all the staff speak fluent English so sometimes you have to make sure they know what you want.

The Galingkha is an excellent base for visiting Thimphu. It is at the absolute centre of town, and has large, clean, light, comfortable and well furnished rooms with helpful and friendly staff. Of all the various hotels I stayed in in Bhutan, I would rate this as one of the best. Of course there will be hotels that charge $1,500 a night that in absolute terms will be better, but in terms of what the Galingkha sets out to do, and what it charges to stay there, I would rate it as excellent. The only two drawbacks that I could see where, first, that all town centres in Bhutan have a resident population of dogs that can be quite vocal at night, so whenever you're staying in a town, earplugs are a good idea. Secondly, the hotel seems to have quite a lot of Chinese guests, and the breakfast is fairly orientated towards their tastes, which may not accord with Western palettes.
