“A nice place to stay in Thimpu”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 16, 2013

I was in Bhutan recently to attend the Chakrasamvara blessings at Punakha for a couple of days and on our way we stopped for one night in Thimpu. The Peaceful Resort is appropriately named as the Upper Motithang area is deathly quiet at night. It was January and the night temperature was -1C but the room was nice and warm thanks to more than enough heaters. The shower operation to get water at the right temperature was a bit complicated and there was just about enough hot water before I got out. My room-mate had to wait for a while for the water to heat up. Breakfast was nice albeit basic. There is WiFi but like many other places in Bhutan it is awfully slow.

Peaceful resort, is exactly that, it's peaceful and quiet. Yes, we were travelling in a group with a van, but I would have definitely preferred to be in the middle of Thimpu and can just go take a stroll when I want to. Since the group was made up of people who didn't all know each other and were different ages, there were times when we wanted to break off and go explore separately. The hotel itself was very nice though, a relief to come back at the end of a packed and tiring day of seeing so many beautiful places. I think when in Bhutan, accommodation is less important than the program of your itinerary, and you will be spending more time on the road and sightseeing than in the hotel. So if you just want to come back at the end of your day and rest and not go out anywhere Peaceful Resort will be perfect. Apparently it is very close to Amankora, so it is in a beautiful setting for sure. But if you still have enough energy to explore the city in the evening or even try checking out the local night scene, it might not the most convenient place to stay.

Peaceful Resort is an excellent hotel located just outside the main town of Thimpu. This means you are away from the hubbub but it also means that the nearest store is a fifteen minute drive. This is not really a problem as almost all tourists there have a vehicle at their disposal. The property has a nice lobby, where a beautiful fireplace is present. Outside a small lawn/garden is available for leisure. The room that we stayed in was on the second floor. It was spacious and very neat and clean. All modern amenities like a flat screen tv, coffee maker, mini fridge etc. were present. Our travel agent had made some major mistakes in our itinerary and we were in a sour mood when we entered the hotel. But the moment we entered our room we forgave a lot of things. The bed was huge and very comfortable. The heater in the room was sufficient. The view from our room of the hills was excellent and especially of the sunrise in the morning. The bathroom was quite big, water pressure great and sufficient warm water was available.
The staff at the hotel are soft spoken and very courteous. Room service is prompt. The Dining area is in a separate enclosure on the side of the hotel. It has a well stocked bar. Breakfast is good. Usually you are provided options at the breakfast table from which you can choose. Indian cuisine is also available along with Bhutanese and we tasted both. We had no issues with the food what so ever.

We read in many forums about issues of barking dogs in the night, but during our stay we encountered no such problems. We did find a spider in the room during our stay, which the staff promptly shooed out of the windows.

Overall my family and I enjoyed our stay thoroughly at the hotel. We would definitely recommend the hotel, and hope to revisit it someday.

Room Tip: There is no elevator, so you need to use the stairs for the upper floors. The stairs can be difficul...

Excellent hotel in Thimphu. Location was a bit outside town but no problem as all tourists have drivers assigned to them who can drive you into town. After a trip to Bhutan in which most places were quite cold, it was a real pleasure to find this hotel had quality heating which made the room very comfortable. The room was also very large and sunny and easily the best place I stayed in Bhutan. The dinner here was excellent - unlike every other place i went to, this was no buffet but a great 4 course meal served by waitresses.

Room Tip: Room 15 was a really good room.

We spent one night here, its away from town which is quiet and peaceful. Dinner was western style and it was surprisingly tasty! Got wi-fi and a television, which is good. The biggest drawback is the lack of hot water! The hot water from shower only lasted for 2 mins! So pls be prepared that u cannot wash ur hair here, bring a shower cap with you!!

As the name suggests the hotel is a travellers paradise. The rooms are comfortable, clean and exceptionally well maintained. We stayed here for 2 nights and it was a great experience.

Staffs were polite and helpful. Food in their restaurant was tasty.

Room Tip: All rooms are comfortable, hence you have dont have to worry ...

This was our first hotel in Bhutan, not sure what to expect but were very happy when we arrived. The rooms are spacious and the bed was huge, the Hester worked well which is a good thing this time in Bhutan. The restaurant was the best food we had in Bhutan, restaurant quality and each meal was about 5 courses and always beautifully presented. I would highly recommend this resort and would stay again if we were to return to Thimphu.
