“Great for a few days”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

We booked into here on two separate occasions in October 2013. On both occasions we found the staff relaxed and professional, the chalets clean and well equipped and the pool refreshing and clean. Breakfast was a good choice of substantial meals which meant you really didn't need to eat again until dinner.... In the evening its clear the Head Chef and his staff enjoy their work - the menu was inventive with a great selection of Venison dish's and other meats together with fish and vegetarian options all typically local. Wine list is predominately South African with some classy and expensive choices. However we selected the standard 'house' options and found them perfectly acceptable and vastly better than a lot of other house wines offered by similar hotels. The management team are splendid and a credit to the human race - one of our group had succumbed to a hidden unidentified spider bite which could have been very serious, one of the two owners contacted a member of staff who was in town and procured over the counter a prescription of relevant and suitable antibiotics which saved the day - I cannot think of another establishment that would go the distance in these circumstances.. Late afternoon whilst enjoying a few sundowners one can enjoy visits from various wildlife like Zebra and Warthogs together with deer and Monkeys. All in all a great place to stay for a few days to relax.

Lilayi has been totally refurbished and looks fabulous! Chalets are luxurious.....comfatable beds, Egyptian cotton bedding, gowns, wonderful bathrooms. The whole ambiance of the lodge is wonderful.......food to die for. A visit to the orphan baby elephants is a must. All in all a place to go to feel and be spoilt!

Lodge recently refurbished and is a nice Oasis about 30 kilometers from Arcades area. Has a large game preserve attached with safari drives and the must see baby elephant orphanage. Only one public feeding at 11:30-12:30 daily. Food at lodge was excellent. Make it a day trip. Go to feeding of baby elephants, have lunch at lodge and then the game drive.

The lodge is totally refurbished and offers a modern restaurant in beautiful surroundings. Very calm and relaxing in the middle of a private game park, only half an hour's drive from Lusaka city centre.
I was there on a Sunday, after visiting the elephant orphanage at the entrance gate, around 3 km from the lodge. (Feeding of the baby elephants is at 11:30 - be there at 11:00.)
The restaurant lunch menu is varied. I chose their smoked salmon salad for starter and the chef's special beef for main course. Both delicious, tender and tasty. They had a special school holiday menu for children.
The meal was rounded up with a cappuccino at the pool which is nice and clean. There is a spacious playground for the children. Lilayi is a great place for a family weekend visit or an outing with friends. Booking is essential.

We had an excellent day at Lilayi yesterday. We went on an enjoyable game drive/walk first thing with Sonnet, a knowledgeable and friendly ranger who told us about the animals plants and birds we came across; spent an hour learning about and seeing the baby elephants at the elephant orphanage; had a fantastic leisurely 3 course lunch/coffee and a couple of beers each on the verandah, had an enjoyable stroll around the hotel dam and left around 5pm after a glass of wine next to the pool whilst watching animals which congregated on the lawn below late afternoon. People were having great fun in the pool.(pretty cold judging by the screams!) The staff were all really friendly and helpful. We had the works and it cost around $150 for 2 including the game drive.

From arriving after dusk to leaving much later than expected it was an experience to remember! A "welcome" at the boom entering the lodge to the greeting at the reception and welcoming into the restaurant, with a fire burning and friendly staff was something not yet experienced in such a manner here in Zambia. The interior is state of the art with touches of Africa and some modern styling mixed in subtle ways to create an elegant ambiance. The wine-list will not disappoint and a menu that will tickle any person's taste-buds. Benjamin Japp's hospitality made sure every guest needs was taken care of in every way required. I'm sure that in the future Lilayi Lodge will be a name that will come up more and more whenever people speak of Lusaka, Zambia!
