Protea Hotel by Marriott Lusaka
Ranked #10 of 34 Hotels in Lusaka
Reviewed February 18, 2013

I enjoyed my stay at the Protea Hotel Lusaka. It is in a nice location within walking distance of a number of restaurants and an outdoor shopping area with a very nice grocery store. The hotel is fairly new. The rooms are good sized. My bathroom was acceptable. The morning breakfast buffet has many options, including omelets cooked to order. The hotel does not have room service, which is compensated for to a significant degree by the restaurants in the adjacent shopping area. The hotel also does not have a fitness room, but instead has what looked like non-commercial exercise equipment located in the hallway of a couple of different floors. The lack of an exercise room is the most important gap in Protea Hotel Lusaka amenities.

If you need a clean comfortable hotel in lusaka close to shops restaurants then this one is hard to beat in lusaka. For a protea its a little expensive but its good quality and the staff were very helpful. I had just come out of the bush and was very happy with the quality of my room and customer service.

One of the best hotel in Lusaka. Reasonable rate per nite with a discount to a second room. However, there is no room service and limited supply of ironing boards. We were given little time to use it - 30 mins and off to the next guest room. Enjoyed the morning breakfast buffet with a good variety to choose from. Be aware that the mosquitoes are likely to follow you to your room and bite you at nights even though we are on the top floor (4th floor). My son and I were bitten on our feet and faces. Despite all that, plenty of shops round the corner, Great service including an african market during the weekends. Shops include plenty of cafes, restaurants, hairdresser, grocery etc

Stayed here as a day bust stopover and the hotel was great . The rooms are large and the staff very attentive. K would imagine it could get noisy on a Saturday night outside with the shops and bars, but I guess ask for a room overlooking another area? Over all a good experience but not a business location for me.

We had an overnight stopover in Lusaka (LUN), arriving at 10pm with an 8 am flight next morning. The Protea Arcades Hotel seemed to be one of the closest to the airport. (15 minutes). (The Protea Cairo Rd is more distant from the airport.) We could find no mention of a shuttle on the hotel website and were surprised to find a Protea shuttle van waiting for our flight. We hitched a ride on it, even though our names were not on the driver's pickup list. (Better to email the hotel ahead of time.) The shuttle ride cost one hundred thousand Kwacha (USD twenty) per person each way (USD eighty rt for 2 pax). We paid with a CC at the hotel. The staff were very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and comfortable and about the level of a Marriott Residence Inn. Breakfast is included and officially starts at 06:30, although we started at 06:00 without problem.Buffet breakfast included cooked items (bacon, eggs, sausages) and cold items (cereal, yogurts, fruits, pastries and breads), juices, coffees and teas and was wonderful with an attentive staff.

A well presented hotel in Lusaka. The breakfast offered a wide selection to suit all tastes including great cooked buffet. By far the best bit about our stay though were the staff. Without exception they could not have done more to help us, especially Richard and Amos who can carry several times his own body weight in luggage.

I spent one night here at the end of my two weeks safari in Zambia.
Our room was clean and comfortable, all the staff was very kind: the girl who waited for us at the airport, the people at front desk, the chambermaid, the waiters.
Breakfast was more than scrumptious, in a perfect South African style, with a very wide choice of every kind of food: eggs cooked as you want, bacon, sausages, potatoes, meat, bread, cereals, pancakes, muffins and other pastries and even more that I don’t remember now.
The location is good, the hotel has a private gate to the Arcades Mall where you can have dinner, go to the “Spar” supermarket and there is a bookstore too.
For me it was a very good stay between the wild of the bush and the return in my big and busy town.
