The staff there are well organised in their various programmes/tours for their visitors. Visitors are not bored because every hour has got its own activity. However I would urge them to provide some cultural entertainments for their visitors as well especially in the evenings after dinner. The place is superb.

“Nice Game Reserve Close to Lusaka”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2012

Beautiful setting about a 45 minute drive outside of Lusaka. Getting there should cost you about 300,000 Kwacha (although taxis will try to charge you more).

I did not stay at the reserve, just went there for a day trip, for about USD 70 you get a lunch and access to all the facilities. The lunch was excellent with game meat on the brai which was delicious.

The main game they have at the park are various forms of antelope (several varieties), elephants, monkeys, lots of birds, buffalo, and warthogs. They also have lions but they are separated from the rest of the game so don't expect to see a kill.

During the dry season I would recommend doing a horseback safari, wasn't really practical during the rainy season because the grasses were quite high. The boat ride around the lake was really pleasant and the game drive allowed us to see everything the park had to offer.

Recommended if you want to get out of the capital but don't have enough time to go to Victoria Falls in Livingstone.

Call ahead and make reservations.

“excellent place to live and enjoy cheese and wine + small game(animals) watching”

Excellent game meat, cheese variety and service. Within 40 kilometers of downtown Lusaka, this place is very quiet, excellent chalets, food, game viewing etc.

“worth a visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 18, 2011

If you have some time on your hands in Lusaka then Chaminuka is well worth a visit. You can go horse riding amongst the antelope and giraffe and also go fishing. The food is pretty good, but the best thing about Chaminuka is its Africa Art - an incredible collection of contemporary African art, but Zambian and other African artists.

Well worth a visit if you have the time, although quite a bit out of the way, depending on where you are staying

“Delightful day-trip - wish I had time to stay-on”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 13, 2011

Chaminuka is a game park close to Lusaka (but a 45 minute drive, bad roads). It offers half-day safari & lunch packages, full day packages and also offers rooms for longer stays. The half-day and full day packages include a ramble through the extensive game park (by land rover, or horseback) - you'll see a wide variety of beasts and birds, and they indulge the wildlife photographer (in all of us) and will wait as you set-up your shots. The guides are knowledgable and engaging.
The lunch is fabulous -- the usual bbq fare, to which they add impala, ridgeback, warthog -- depends on the day. A nice outing - perfect as you overcome jet lag ready to engage later in the week. If one has time, try staying there - 45 minutes to the city isn't so bad!
