“Guest house”

This guest house is well located being only a short Budda Budda ( motorbike taxi) ride from the city center. The view is great but we found the rooms musty and a bit noisy as the fly wire over the doors, for ventilation, was to the hallway. The breakfast was not that great and wireless did work at the cafe , which did have a great view. It was a long drive from the airport but our driver was there on time to get us, which was welcoming. Hopefully the new accomodation will be a bit better.

Bringing a group to visit Church links in Uganda, I was keen to stay in this Guesthouse to support the local Church. It was a big surprise to find that despite having booked several months previously and reconfirmed the booking several times, the rooms had been double-booked and we had to rearrange our rooming requirements on arrival. Rooms were more simple and basic than I had expected, but they were ok and reasonably keen. The staff were friendly and food was average on one evening and excellent the next. The staff were certainly trying to please, but the building works on the new accommodation block were proving a major inconvenience to staff and guests. Given the tremendous potential and excellent location, this place really should be better than it is. I so hope that the new accommodation rooms are well furnished when completed, and the current rooms definitely need some refurbishment too. This is a peaceful place to stay and could be a real gem in Kampala. It really ought to be better. I wish the management and staff well, and hope that the new building work is completed to everyone's satisfaction, but will want to check the place out before committing to staying again. Currently there are better quality and cheaper options in Kampala, and I would probably choose Entebbe over Kampala as a first or last night in Uganda. However I will keep my eye on this place, and hope that within a couple of years, the reviews are offering the praise the location and setting deserves!

Normal African challenges of intermittent electricity, but generators usually work. Good food, great staff, excellent location. Lost our luggage but it arrived a day later at the airport (did I mention this is Africa?). The guest house sent a driver to pick it up at no charge to me. Again this is the friendly side of Africa.

After driving around Kampala looking for a hotel (and having our car vandalized elsewhere), we were happy to find the quiet and safety of Namirembe.

The rooms are very basic and a little outdated, but they were very clean, the beds had good mosquito nets and the shower was hot. If you are thinking about ordering any food check the prices first. We had a late night meal when we first arrived which we found to be overpriced. The breakfast was good and included real coffee which was appreciated. Service was great as well.

I would probably stay here again if I were on a budget and wanted a quiet place to get away from the crowded streets of downtown Kampala.

Room Tip: If you want a room with a view, book early and request it.

I have stayed at the Namirembe guest house a couple of times now & the 'million dollar' view is indeed real. The buffet is ok but the b/fast normally disappoints. The rooms need some serious upgrade but the staff & service is the best in Kampala!

Room Tip: Wait until they have finished refurbishing the block next to the reception before you can get a real...

We had one night in Kampala at the end of our trip and the Namirembe Guest House was all we needed it to be.

The rooms are reasonably sized with comfortable beds and a wall mounted fan to cool you down. The room and bathroom was very clean however the water pressure in the bathroom was very low which made showering a bit of a chore. That said, it's better than many people are fortunate to have in Uganda.

The food in the restaurant is cheap and good quality, both for dinner and breakfast. After the long drive it would have been nice to have a cold beer however as this is a Christian guest house it is alcohol free.

The terrace of the restaurant commands some great views over the city and a short walk up to the cathedral behind the guest house gives even better ones!

Cheap, clean and very cheerful!

I stayed at this guest house again for 12 days in December. I have no complaints about the accommodation or the staff, who once again were helpful and friendly. From memory a single room is 72,000/- (ugandan shillings - currently around 3,750 to £1), and a double around 82,000/-. There are some rooms with 3 beds in; some are en suite, some aren't. I had some problems with sleeping, but not because of the accommodation, but again because of inconsiderate guests. I was told by the reception staff that I should have let them know. (They are now in a temporary office a short distance away). Incidentally, there is a security post at the gate with armed guard; also a small craft shop. You can buy cheaper at craft markets, but if you need to buy a gift in a hurry, this is handy.

The guest house is being renovated & extended. The accommodation on the site is in several large units. The most popular block is the one that is being extended. Please don't let this put you off going there. I stayed in a room next to the building site. Work did not start until 9am and was over by the time it was dark (I was never there earlier that this - 6.30pm). The area is kept immaculately clean - the staff work really hard to ensure that the place isn't even dusty outside.

There is a wide range of food items on the menu, which are freshly cooked for you and come steaming hot. There is also a buffet every lunch time and evening. Fridays are barbecue evening. Breakfast is between 7am and 9.30am. Again you can order omelettes freshly cooked and there is a range of other foods/fruit to choose from.

The only reason I have marked this as "very good" instead of "excellent" is that some of the staff have been laid off because of the building work. While the service is still very good, it can take a little longer than it used to for things you ordered to arrive. Compared to other places I've stayed, it is still much better. I am visiting Uganda again in April and will certainly book myself in here again even though I know the building work will still be continuing. Can I give a better recommendation than that?. .
