As visitors to Kampala know, it is a crowded, hectic city, an exhausting place to travel in. So when we saw the tripadvisor reports for Banda Inns, and the enticing website pictures, we thought the reports might be too good to be true. They aren't. From the minute you enter the secluded and peaceful compound, surrounded by trees, and experience the warm welcome from Steven, Asteria and their staff, you know you are in a home from home and going to be well looked after. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and clean, functioning facilities, and the variety of fruits and cooked dishes for breakfast is a treat. We enjoyed sitting on the lounge verandah savouring our breakfast and later relaxing in armchairs on the balcony outside our upstairs room. For birders, note the presence of African Scops Owl at twilight on the wires along the access lane from Tank Hill Road and the sound of Barbets from the surrounding trees. Nothing was too much trouble: late breakfast, flexible check-out if room not needed, facility to leave clothes and bags when travelling up country, complementary washing, even ironing! We'd thoroughly recommend Banda Inns to anyone travelling to Kampala. It's a fantastic peaceful haven only a ten minute boda-boda ride from the bustling city centre.

Room Tip: As other reviewers have noted, try and secure an upstairs room if one is available, especially the f...

Having stayed at Banda inns several years ago we revisited this time with our 16 month old son. It's still the best place we've found in Kampala. Well organised, friendly lovely to relax around. All in all top marks and will definately return. They even organise cars, drivers, safaries. A top spot.

We stayed at Banda Inns a couple of weeks ago. It was a welcome relief after 4 weeks of camping (Zimbabwe) and voluntary work in Northern Uganda. We just needed to get somewhere clean! We had one night at another hotel in Kampala and it was quite dirty and grotty. We were happy to pay a little more and stay at Banda Inns. The room was very clean and one thing I noted is that everything works - In Uganda it seems that most places you go, things are always broken and 'kind of work' or 'used to work', but Steven at Banda has done a quality job so this is not a problem. The bedroom had a large wardrobe in in which was great - somewhere to put your clothes - this can be lacking in hotels in Africa. The shower installation in the room did leak a little (my only negative comment) but Steven said they are going to rrenovate the bathrooms and fix the showers.

Also good was the fact that the staff speak really good English so you can find out what you need to know without problems. They can drive you anywhere for a small fee - removing the need for taxi's and motorcycles if you don't want to risk your life! There are also several outdoor seating areas if you just want to hang around and read a book (which we did as we were both sick whilst there).

For the price I would recommend Banda Inns.

Cheers, Alex and Brett (Sydney, Australia)

Room Tip: I stayed downstairs for one night - the room was not as good. Upstairs is very good as there are sea...

I stayed in Banda Inns for 11 nights and would highly recommend it to visitors to Kampala. It's in a great location with lots of good restaurants and cafes near by. All the staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly, the breakfast menu is huge and all very tasty. The rooms are large, clean and comfortable with mosquito nets. Great value for money and good very good wifi connection. I really loved staying there and it started to feel like home, I hope to return sometime soon.

Kampala is a nightmare city - chaotic, dusty, ugly but full of friendly people and the wonderful Banda inns which is a welcome oasis. It feels like you're staying at someone's house (but with private facilities!) with a peaceful setting in a lovely garden. The food is amazing (I don't know if I was delirious from travelling but I'm still drooling over that chicken dinner!), the rooms comfortable and clean. Steven and Osteria are friendly, helpful and full of useful information.
It's a bit out of the city which is a big plus in Kampala, but right in the main muzungu area with lots of restaurant options around.
An intended one night stay turned into three and if I'm ever in Kampala again I'll be back!

Booked one night in Kampala at Banda Inns but immediately booked more once we arrived. A little bit out from the main part of Kampala but this is an advantage! The vibe was like staying in someone's family home with overfamiliar dog included. Steven and Asteria were extremely helpful and provided advice about getting around Kampala. Best roast chicken in Uganda!
Great gardens for relaxing- you feel a world away from kampala's craziness with fast wifi available. I would definitely stay there again and recommend Banda Inns to anyone.
