“2nd stay just as great as first!”

You simply cannot go wrong staying here, especially if you are on business. Friendly staff, beautiful spacious rooms, solid internet connection so you can stay linked to home office. I was able to work uninterrupted during the day. Convenient location in city center, so I could easily get to meetings at government offices. Front desk staff is helpful, concierge is always ready to help. The grounds are beautiful, and breakfast is at The Lakes restaurant, where you can eat outside or inside.

A tasteful and beautifully decorated hotel. Very good ambience . Good , spacious rooms food wise . Room service was a bit disappointing . The Buffett however was far better. Lots of wonderful fresh fruit and juices which I loved.

The service overall however although good is very slow , however the staff really try their best to make you feel comfortable .

Tried the spa and the gym all were great. This is the hotel to stay if you are in Kampala

Room Tip: Ask for an upgrade at checkin from standard to next available

I have stayed at he Serena many times and always look forward to return. It has very friendly and helpful staff, and all the services are great. It's location is quiet yet very convinient to access business meetings in town. The rooms are quite spacious, ideal for holiday relaxation or in room working. It is the best n Kampala.

Room Tip: I always stay on the higher floors for quiet.

Great rooms and superb front office staff. Arrived without a confirmed booking and they quickly sorted me out - and they were full. Great ambience (music from the frogs) at the downstairs bar (Mist); great before going out and well priced bitings. Food in the restaurants could be better but the staff make up for it. Well priced for East Africa and quality of the product.

The Kampala Serena is a beautiful hotel situated in a tropical garden. While there, you feel a million miles away from the noise and traffic of Kampala. The large gardens contain full-sized trees, flowering plants, fountains, ponds, a stream, and a waterfall.

The lobby is nicely laid out and furnished, with several chair and sofa groupings to encourage guests to sit and talk or read. African artwork decorate the lobby and the hallways of the higher floors. Desk staff are friendly, efficient, and helpful, although I did received a several pieces of wrong information about the late checkout procedure, which ended in me paying considerably more than I was originally told I would be charged. The desk staff arranged to charge Ugandan shillings to my room bill when I found that the local money machines would not accept my US ATM card (Ugandan ATMs required the "chip and pin" cards). That assistance was a lifesaver. The desk arranged for cab service on several occasions, including my trip back to the airport. In each case the cost of the cab is charged to the room, making expense accounting easier.

My room was luxurious and spacious, with a full desk, and a sitting area. The bed was huge and comfortable, but the hotel provides only a heavy quilt, which is too warm for Kampala in August, forcing the use of the AC all night. The mechanism operating the drapes did not work, but luckily they could be closed by hand. My view was of the rather ugly hotel next door. The bathroom was huge, with a tub and a separate glassed-in shower area. The hotel provides you with two pint bottles of drinking water each day. The hotel offers a turn-down service, something I find silly, but others may appreciate.

The rooms provide both wi-fi and ethernet access to the internet. The speed is fairly good, although I didn't try to stream a movie. The selection of TV channels is meager, mostly news and sports channels. The free movie channels had nothing worth watching. The remote control on my TV would not turn the set off, and there were no button on the TV itself.

The recreational facilities are amazing. The pool is beautifully landscaped, enormous, and shaped so that there are many small alcoves where you can sit alone and read under full-sized trees. There is also a bar and food service provided at the pool. There is a waterfall in the pool area that attracts Maribou storks, and I was able to watch one at close range as it enjoyed the waterfall. The gym rivals that of any major American chain--lots of equipment, for both aerobic and weight training, and the gym provides an aerobics class to guests.

The breakfast buffet was extensive, with lots of meats and African dishes, as well as fresh fruits and juices, cereals, and baked goods. There is a chef preparing omelets. The dining area includes outdoor tables that adjoin the hotel ponds and gardens. Wait staff were friendly, and the only complaint was the time it took to get coffee. On more than one occasion, I'd be halfway through my meal before the coffee arrived. Refills took even longer. This same restaurant also provides lunch and dinner service, each of which was good, but not great, quality. There also is an "Italian" restaurant, which provides a quieter environment than the main dining room. The food is pricier, but again the quality is just good.

This is a fairly expensive hotel, by Kampala standards, and the ambience is certainly very nice. I agree with another reviewer that a hotel of this caliber should have food to match. The food is perfectly fine and nicely prepared, but it could be better. However, I would definitely come back and stay again. A hotel of this quality in a major American city would likely be much more expensive.
