The Kabira Country Club makes no claims to be a five-star international hotel, nor is it. On the other hand, it’s generally an above-average local facility. Rooms are basic, but clean, comfortable and air-conditioned. There is no elevator/lift, so if you have trouble with stairs this is not the right place for you. The single restaurant (under cover but open air) is OK, with a multiple-cuisine menu and reasonable food. The view over the large pool and spacious grounds was quite nice.

Kabira offers very good value if you negotiate a discounted rate, which is possible. However, don’t be surprised at all the extra taxes and charges that Ugandan hotels add, which substantially raise the room cost even before a 5% surcharge is added for using a credit card (again, common in Kampala). Also, if you pay by credit card they ask you to sign a blank, imprinted charge slip, or else sign in advance for your room costs. The former option is dangerous, the latter insulting. On the other hand, Lisper, their guest relations manager, is world-class. I recommend making all arrangements (room, airport transfers, etc.) with her personally. She will not let you down.

I will stay here again when business takes me to this part of Kampala (always seeking to avoid unnecessary travel in the awful traffic), but I would not recommend a special trip just to use this hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the first floor to avoid having to climb too many stairs.

My daughter and I recently stayed at the Kabira Country Club and had a lovely time. Some of the highlights: warm and friendly staff; excellent service; great view from our room of the pool and the lush greenery with a lovely balcony; great breakfasts and we never felt rushed even when we got to the restaurant 10 minutes before breakfast ended - we were allowed to stay and enjoy our meal. In addition to this, the kids play area is very nice and the staff there is great. I was there on business and the Guest Relations Manger went out of her way to accommodate our requests, making our lives so much easier and alleviating stress. I ordered room service nightly and the service was prompt and the order always right! My only disappointment was in the lack of local food – while in Uganda, one wants to enjoy Ugandan food. I look forward to being back soon!

Room Tip: If possible, get a pool facing room.

This hotel is a bit deceptive - because from the outside, the hotel is quite impressive, and even when you're on the property, it's really a lot more sophisticated that most hotels in Africa. The pool is beautiful, and the gym is the largest and best I've ever seen. A lot of the local expat population comes in and uses the facilities, and it's a fun place to mingle and meet people if you're traveling on your own.

The rooms leave little to rave about. Everything is quite basic - but clean enough, and have the basic amenities. The condition of the rooms and the linens and everything else do not meet the standard of this type of business hotel, but they are sufficient. Price wise, I think the slightly nicer hotels will cost you more - so it's up to you. If you want to use the facilities and meet locals, this is a fun place to stay - if you care about your room and plan to spend time working from it, you might want to stay elsewhere.

Husband and I stayed 4 days. In fairness they are doing major refurbishment, so a lotta banging during the day. Replacing old windows.
The beds were comfortable. Bathrooms need a good scrub, I had to keep asking for - towels, shampoo, more than one teabag please, sugar etc. The telephone in the room needed sterilising yuk. There is a fridge with bottled water and good A/C
We were the road side so pretty noisy, pool sides good, beautiful swimming pool and surround.
The staff need training they do not listen to your order. I drink tea and was given coffee in a teapot. All the spouts were broken on the tip good harbour for buggies.
Samosas, lunch time I had to pour out the fat, nachos were like a bit of leather with cheese on top.
The evening Indian meal. Chicken Korma tasted like it was cooked in old fish oil.

Good gym and squash courts

If you choose this place then make sure you get a good reduction. At the moment it's overpriced

Ok, we ate Indian food in the evening, my husband stays here with his company, so he recommended the chicken. It tasted like it was cooked in old fish fat, no more to say. The rice was good.

Breakfast is a good buffet. Lunch time don't go for snacks. Nachos were like old boots and my samosas I had to pour out the fat on a tissue.

There are good squash court and gym facilities.

The hotel driver Luley Edwards took me out while husband was at work. He was very safe and courteous, what a lovely man.

The first impression of The Kabira are lovely, especially the owners Bently convertible parked outside, I noticed it was pretty clean in that!

If you are not too fussy then stay here, but get them to reduce the price because they are deffinately over charging.

The place is gorgeous to look at green and a lovely ambience, but don't look too close.

I do hope they get on with the refurb and staff/cook improvement.

Room Tip: The poolside away from the road. Also the roadside upper floors smell of greasy food.

Place looks good. But we had lot of problem with the showers, as they were of weird design.
Otherwise the place is clean, centrally located. Food was good. Liked the breakfast.Place had a big gym , and pool but didnt get time to use them.
