“New Year 2013”

We booked our table for 12 almost one week upfront.
Promised was a free veranda with the best view.
On the evening 3 other tables had been added for other people.
The food that was offered was expensive.
We ordered. It was cold and it couldn't even fill half a normal stomachs.
Beers warm. Service was maybe provided by students who had just started their studies.
Don't know where.
When I complained to the daughter Katatumba, she only smiled and said "that's what you get when its busy."

We will never go there again.

Room Tip: Don't go here.

The name Diplomat Hotel, the quite surroundings, an affluent location and a great view of the hotel will get you, as they are the only positive highlight of this place. Other than that, in my opinion this place needs a complete shutdown. My wife and I spent two painful nights at this old, dilapidated building with magnificent view though, while attending a graduation ceremony at a nearby university November last year. When making a reservation we were so delighted when told we would be given a 'Honeymoon Suite' since we were a couple. We were shocked to find our 'Honeymoon Suite' wasn't ready, left our bags and came back few hours later to find out, the so called 'Honeymoon Suite' turned out to be a dusty, messy and a total dysfunctional room, with a unflushed toilet, a broken shower pipe with a spoonful flow of water - I had to call a reception to get someone to come and fix the pipe, as the water stopped flowing while I was in the middle of the shower. You could tell clearly that the room and the hotel in general wasn't well maintained - the bed, mattress, pillows and sheets were old and not well cleaned. The handy antenna TV wasn't working, all you could see was random flashes of images. The place doesn't even deserve to be called ' a hotel' as it lacks even basic standard of customer services and hygiene, I feel sorry for the staff as they are the ones who get all heat and blames from the angy customers. The Ugandan hotel authorities needs to look into this place as it tarnishes the image of Kampala hotel and tourism industry and Uganda in general. I strongly do not recommend anyone staying at this place.

The diplomat was stationed on the top of a hill and had really nice views of the city... i was site seeing in town and it was a good place to stop for a cold drink.

I heard reviews of it being a bit dingy but I only went there for a drink, some food and to play some pool. I had a good time!

I was there before 2 days, cheap hotel means cheap in everything

rooms are sooting, everything, doors, walls, bed sheets, pillows, even mosquito nets colour turned to black, dare to take shower?, no way!

I broke the ashtray in room and they asked me to pay $24 it!

breakfast is small sample and took them one hour to prepare coffe&omlet!

the view is not as great as one can imagine, very noisy neighbour,

it's cheap hotel, cheap people, never step there!

My brother and I stayed there for two nights (two nights too many may I add).
Upon arrival we had our bags searched although I think it was more a case of them wanting to look at our things, then finally got to reception to ask for rooms (3pm) where we were told to wait for half an hour... after waiting for an hour I went back to reception to find the receptionist asleep!!

The rooms were grubby and run down and in massive need of refurbishment. I suspect that the bedding had not been washed. The bed had fleas or bed bugs and I have the bites to prove it and the pillow smelled fungal.

Out on the main balcony of the restaurant you will be treated with a breath taking view, however, the drinks are all warm including the beer, (seemed very hard to get them to put beers/drinks in the fridge/freezer). You can also enjoy two conflicting types of music playing overly loud along with a blazingly loud television.

Almost half of what is on the menu is not available and the food is massively salty and very basic and over priced for what it is.

Although they say that they have internet we were told we could not use it. Why? "because it makes the lights dim."

Paying for anything is difficult and receiving your change takes time (we waited up to half an hour), and more than once were told that they did not have change!!! We were not even paying with large bills.

Although it says in the information booklet in your room you will receive a jug of free drinking water this is not the case, you must pay for it.

The service was painfully slow and any food or snacks ordered took an average of 1 hour to come even though we were the only people there.

The staff were generally apathetic and unhelpful and at times argumentative especially during check out (over the water bed bugs and cleanliness of the rooms).

The Hotel Diplomate has a ton of potential and Id recommend the view to anyone, however, do not stay there as it is laughably mismanaged and its sleeping quarters are hazardous to your health.

Room Tip: Some where other than the Hotel Diplomate

Lovely sunset from balcony, a million miles from the bustle and chaos below...Staff lovely. Had a fantastic crepe suzettes' as desert! Laundry to be avoided as very expensive! Would definitely stay here again...

We went to view HD & left in total agreement we would not stay there.
Good location on leafy & upmarket Tank Hill & the views from the hotel are superb - however this is just not enough. We viewed 3 rooms all shabby with a grubby feel. It is by no stretch of the imagination worth the room tariffs.

Room Tip: Check the place out in person before you stay.
