“Nice, Safe Place - check it out”
Reviewed April 5, 2008

I really enjoyed my stay at Fairway Hotel. The staff were all very friendly and the place was very clean. The rooms were all neat and had basically everything you need. The beds were pretty comfortable and my room had a nice view of the courtyard.
The hotel grounds are spectacular, very beautiful gardens. The location is very convenient and I never felt unsafe at any point during my trip. There is a mall a few minutes away and the golf course is directly across the street from the hotel.
Like a lot of other people have said, they have gone through a lot of renovations and you can tell the improvements. There is a new bar and lobby.
My only complaint would be the room service, it took like 40 minutes to get my meal. I expect my food fast but it could have been a busy night.
Overall, great place, would definitely go back

Stayed on two sepearte single nights using it as a stopover hotel. It is a bit of a shambles and looking tired. However, it was clean and had no problems with service. The restaurant food was also not bad for this type of hotel. Fine as a one night stay hotel but would not like to stay longer.

My wife and I stayed here as it seemed a reasonable return for the money payed. We were incredibly disappointed with our stay. This is my second time to this wonderful country and both my wife and I have travelled around Africa quite a lot.
Firstly the front desk service was very poor and unfriendly. The swimmingpool was totally out of action and this was a bitter disappointment as a dip after a busy day is most welcome.
Secondly, when we tried to complain about a few things there was no senior management about and ended getting 3-4 different stories.
Thirdly, as we were organising a group of 14, most found the service so slow and disorganised. The staff, mainly the waiters, were excellent and tried so hard to help and accommodate us but it was sooooo slow and this was even after we pre ordered our food so as not to over run them when we arrived. Alas it was of little help and all but me got the dreaded upset stomachs from the food. It was a real shame as this could be a great place if the senior management could pull their fingers out and listen to their customs.
Mixed reports on the rooms from the other folk.

  • Liked — Basic, and clean and nice and quiet
  • Disliked — No usable pool or gym which was still in the '70s

HEY, yea I stayed year last month and in all honestly, I don’t know what the complaints are about. One of the people who wrote bad stuff about this hotel stayed there over a year ago, maybe then it was bad, but when I was there it was a pretty good experience. They’ve done so many renovations it’s really nice now.

Their lobby looks absolutely brand new and I think they painted the whole hotel. There are lots of little neat places to sit in the sun or under a tree and just relax or read a book. I mean its not a 5 star hotel at 300$ a night so its not going to be perfect, but the atmosphere is an experience in itself, its situated amongst gardens which is really beautiful. It has a pretty nice view and is extremely well located which is one of the major importances. It was really safe as well, no problems what so ever. The staff were all really nice and the manager takes part in day to day operations so you see him around all the time which is kind of nice.

The dining room serves a good continental breakfast and has lots of choice but its nothing special, its good food and all but nothing exotic, except the BBQs on Friday nights. There are lots of restaurants surrounding it though which are really close, just ask the front desk.

The room was standard and came with a fridge, TV, and air-conditioning. The door had a net screen on it but ask for a mosquito net anyways, sometimes some get through when you open the door, but they do spray all the rooms every night.

Overall it was a really good stay, lots of people come to the hotel for coffee and tea so you get to meet lots of people as well which is kind of the reason you go to a foreign place, so yea I would recommend it, I really enjoyed my stay, and it has a price for value that you can’t beat anywhere else. I visited a few of the other places, I had a friend who stayed at the Sheraton and another who stayed at the Emin Pasha, they both came to stay with me at Fairway, they got three nights for the same price as one at where they had stayed, and I mean you don’t really need much else. OH, also check out their spa, it is one of the newest in Uganda and has all of these new treatments with trained people and equipment shipped from South Africa.

While the rooms are reasonable and the staff generally helpful, the hotel is very disorganised and ahd a great deal of trouble in dealing with our group of 8. Most of the bills were innacurate (all on the higher side) and nearly every equest proved too difficult. Checking in and out took ages and the transport we had arranged to pick people from the airport failed in 2 of the 3 planes to be met.

Food just about satisfactory. Swimming pool dirty. generally very run down and little sign of management.
