“Great Guest House”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2007

Stayed at the Adonai 5 Guest House in Kampala for 10 nights while on a building trip in the village of Bbira. Fantastic experience. The women who worked in the home were all very freindly and the accomidations were good. The food was always plentiful and well prepared. The beds were comfortable and nets were provided. For the services provided (private room, clean bathroom, laundry, breakfast and dinner) the price was excellent. The power did go out about every other day for a few hours, but it is in Kampala, were one should expect frequent power outages. Will return to! Remeber, this is a guest house, so bathrooms and dinner tables are shared with others, but never a problem with either.

Stayed July 2007

I return to Uganda several times a year and stay in the same guest house. This time I was disappointed that we were changed to a different house, the room was not what was promised, when we were moved to the correct house it was packed with people even with beds in the garage. One mission team leader was very upset with the cramped conditions that had not been the case in previous years. Staff was overworked and sick, laundry was piled high from having 33 people staying in a place which could adequately serve 20-25 people. In the past there were high standards and a peaceful surrounding, but beware when you book. You may not get what you are asking for and you may have many surprises. To mission team leaders I know this is scary. The place is always clean and the food has been great but the best cook is leaving to go to university in September and only one person has been trained so the food will return to being safe but ordinary. Plan on bringing flashlights since the generator has been spoiled by untrained personnel. Hopefully the management will wake up and realize they once had a great group of properties with wonderful service and they need to return to high standards.

I was in Kampala Uganda last Ocboter and I have to say in all honesty that my fears were put to rest. It seemed safe in Kampala, I would advise not travelling alone and use common sense. It gets dark VERY quickly and I don't think you want to really be out alone at night,(would you want to really be out alone anywhere at night these days?) carry a flashlight.

I loved it there and will be returning this summer for about 4 1/2 months. Yes there are things going on that you should be aware of but thats life. If anyone is looking for a guesthouse I would highly recommend Adonai guesthouse in muyenga, it was beautiful, clean, the hospitality was amazing and the food was awesome. Enjoy your time in Africa.
