“A lot of small things add up to one big one!”
Reviewed March 17, 2014 via mobile

This may sound like a very picky review but For a $200 a night hotel I would expect a lot more!

For the past 3 weeks I have been working around the Kampala area and staying in tents. I have stayed at the Sheraton during the weekends twice now. Although very relaxing to sleep in a bed, both times my room has had a tired and unloved feel about it.

I have already reviewed this hotel previously last year and was amazed that the maintenance staff lack of interest when they left my AC unit pouring water all over the room. So I was obviously quite optimistic about booking another stay here. However, on reading recent reviews and comment from the managerial staff that extensive repairs and maintenance had been carried out, I thought "I'll give it another go"

Firstly I was in room 925, I gave up with maintenance and fixed the following myself:

1. The 3 and only drawers under the TV cabinet are no longer hanging out as I have fastened the clearly obvious loose screws that stopped all drawers from closing.

2. The shower head has been cleaned and now directs water onto the customer instead of the walls, ceiling and floor.

3. The antenna cable for the TV is so short that any attempt to manoeuvre the TV forward within the wooden case disconnects the signal. Therefore renders the TV useless from either of the 2 beds. Unfortunately I mistakenly forgot to pack spare coax in my suitcase and this fault still remains.

4. Shower hose is so kinked that the water doesn't come out of the shower head unless you constantly hold the hose. Fixed by reversing hose.

5. Sockets at desk don't work. Again electricians tools left in the UK and therefore fault still persists ( sorry about that)

Room 931 ( second weekend)

Not bad! The maintenance guy was having a positive week on this one. Apart from:

1. Shower head blocked again (now fixed)

2. The shower head support is held onto the wall by pure willpower and is as loose as some of the women who frequent the bar area during the weekends.

3. Desk power sockets not working

4. Light next to bed had dead bulb ( they did manage to fix that)

5. Curtains don't close properly unless I swung on them like a crazed baboon and once fully closed gave off a utterly stunning star field simulation due to the amount of holes in them.

I'm returning this weekend,

Can't wait.............

Great food. Fantastic Breakfast Buffet. Great service. Wonderful, comfortable room. Everything you need for a wonderful, relaxing, and romantic weekend. Hubby and I went for Valentines weekend. I expected the worst because that night there were tons of people there. But the service was still impeccable. The Lobster Thermidore was delicious, music was as well. I haven't had such a wonderful experience in a long time. We will be back.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 8th floor and had a nice view of the city lights.

I stay at this hotel frequently and they rarely disappoint, they always do their best to make feel at home, some rooms are old and others quite good, they have the best seafood restaurant in East Africa better than the world famous Tamarind in Mombasa,

This is one of the few good brand hotels in Kampala. But the service needs improvement by both the staff in the room and the restaurant. There have been instances were even after repeated advises they were busy and not attending to our needs. The worst part being a house keeping staff knocking the door and just barging into the room even before I could see who it is. The management needs to take not of this make correct actions otherwise only the name will be Big

Perhaps I was influenced by what I have experienced in other Sharaton Hotels but I really battled to justify a Four Star Rating to this Hotel. My room was clean but average, the food was OK. The noise from across the road disco or whatever it was until 3am was unacceptable and when I complained about it the next morning i was told there is nothing that can be done about it. I would have expected a "could we move your room", or some attempt to do something. Therefore I immediately booked out and moved Hotels. The other amenities such as Pool, Gym, and outside eating/cocktail area was good and acceptable as I entertained business colleagues at the cocktail area the night before. Bathrooms need renovation and smells!

Room Tip: If you have to stay here then find out where the "disco" across the road is and insist on...

Nice hotel in city center. The roof top offers a phenomenal view of Kampala city. It has got good food options and you will find a lot of Indian delicacies on menu. Hotel staff is freindly and helpful.

The Kampala Sheraton is a much better business stay option than the Serena because it offers the same services and am entities for a lower price. I found the staff very friendly, the rooms are very neat and clean, wifi is fast and reliable.

Negatives: the bathroom smells, it needs heavy renovation. Breakfast was not up to the mark with a poor display and selection of foods and non-fresh juices.

Overall, the hotel is a safe haven for business people in addition to being part of the rewarding SPG program!

Thank you for your contribution arajaram,

Your compliments are greatly appreciated and your feedback regarding the bathrooms and food display have been passed on to the Managers in charge who will work to ensure that the issues are taken care of.

We do have planned renovations and this will be in going for the next couple of years in stages.

Thank you for staying at the Sheraton Kampala and we hope to see you again.
