“Cool mosque”
Reviewed January 9, 2014

Nice mosque to see in a town that doesn't offer too much. Kampala isnt a nice place at all but this mosque is sweet and historical and is something different to do when in town.

“Worth the stop”
Reviewed November 23, 2013

Stopped here on a bode bode excursion and was well worth the stop. Please note that woman can hire an outsit to cover up at 5$. The climb to the top of the tower is a must, even if you suffer from vertigo. The view is awesome.

“A lovely sanctuary to visit”
Reviewed November 1, 2013

We spent a couple of hours being shown round by Ashiraf and then Mohammed who took us to the top of the tower. The views were fabulous and we had an all round view of Kampala. This was a 1st time visit to a Mosque and I found the atmosphere very calming serene. The background info we were given on how it was funded by Col. Gaddafi and built was an interesting tale. There is a small fee - 10,000 shillings each but it's well worth it. This is a recommended attraction and gives you a tiny to the religion.

“Go at sunset,, be polite and plead to go up the minaret”
Reviewed October 26, 2013

This is the second largest mosque in Africa. It isnt particularly old and frankly, its a bit... gaudy inside. If a premier league football designed a mosque, I would imagine it would be similarly decorated. But forget all that, the view from the top of the minaret is simply incredible. You wont get better in Kampala and with the crazy taxi parks, slum area, city center skyscrapers, owino market, football stadium, lake victoria, even the national stadium all the way out to entebbe and the airport visible from the top, not to mention Kampala's multiple green hills.

You have to pay around 10,000 Ugs and with it being late in the day, you have to be persuasive to go up the minaret around 6pm for sunset. But its worth it at any time of day for the view, especially when the call to prayer comes blasting from the speakers next to your head!

Women need to wear headscarves which are available for free and the whole mosque area might sometimes be the scenes of political unrest, but such events are announced well in advance. I actually found the mosque to be one of the nicest, quietest places in the crazy city.
