As per another reviewer's recommendation, on February 8 2014 a buddy and I walked over to Mateos for booze and chow. After a few days on the road through Rwanda, we wanted good pub grub.
Me: Cheeseburger with a small side salad. Nicely seasoned and prepared beef. Big hearty bun, nice veggie additions and overall a moist tasty experience.
My buddy: Garden Salad & Club sandwich. He said all was fresh and flavorful.
Drinks: This is where it gets tricky. I was ordering double tanqueray gin & tonics, my buddy ordering singles just with the bar gin. None of his drinks were doubles, and all were obviously smaller than mine. Yet when the bill comes out, he was charged for doubles and for a pricier gin. The waitress said that the price in the computer must have been changed even though the menu isn't updated. We had to really fight to get the price per unit of gin down, and then she insisted that he had in fact had doubles.
As prices were fairly reasonable, we didn't fight that next battle, paid and left. I think you're better off here just having some beers with your food or making sure all the prices are agreed to. It wasn't a contentious situation by any means, but definitely check your bill.
Ribs looked delicious, too, but the cheeseburger was awesome! Nothing like watching the winter Olympics in Africa over burgers and gin!
