Hotel Restaurant Cote Sud
Ranked #8 of 39 Hotels in Lome
Reviewed March 28, 2012

How can a previous reviewer possibly state that "service is slow" - some people should stay at home or spend $250 at Le Mercure perhaps. I can tell you that for anyone traveling to Africa, you will never forget your stay at Hotel Cote Sud in Lome. The place is spotless - everywhere - and is a museum of French Togolese architecture, from the front gate to the reception to the beautiful rooms and second floor terrace balcony. Everyone at the hotel is wonderful and I felt completely safe and relaxed here. The location of the hotel is extremely interesting - you are right in the middle of things, an easy and fascinating walk to the sea, to the market, to the main roads where you can catch a motorcycle transport to anywhere in the city. Very special mention must be made of the owner, M, Didier Massart, who should be Honorary French Consul to West Africa, if not the next President of the Republic, for his knowledge, openness, and ability to share French culture with the world. If that weren't enough, it happens that Didier is a magnificent host and chef. I used to be a French professor, and I learned so much about France and France's roles in Africa during my stay at Hotel Cote Sud. The cuisine at the hotel is superlative; by the chef's own confession, his cuisine is not meant to be "nouvelle" or trendy, but just down to earth delicious French cooking infused with a profound understanding of his native France and his adopted Togo. I am very grateful to have had the opportunity to stay here and look fwd very much to visiting again.

Cote Sud is located in a nice district of Lomé. It's a quite place with a nice garden in which a restaurant is located. The French owner has made sure that French cuisine is practised here! Food was delicious and well priced.Rooms are proper and spacious, wifi internet is working well, even in the rooms.
However, it took the kitchen 30 minutes to prepare an omelet, three toasts and a coffee. It took 45 minutes for the reception to prepare 5 bills for the hotel (me and my colleagues). The staff is very friendly and willing to help, but the word 'efficiency' is not in their dictionary...

This little hotel is a gem; we could wish there were more like it in West Africa. It is located on a quiet side street (well, as quiet as one can expect in Lomé). Didier Massart, the owner-manager is a very friendly and helpful French expat who oversees the kitchen as well, and assures simple but pleasant cuisine at modest prices. What you get here is room and good food, no pool or extras, but excellent value.

The rooms are simple but clean, prices vary according to the size and appointment of the rooms in the French fashion. The air-con and hot water works well as does the free wi-fi in the rooms.

The terrace on the second floor is a lovely place to drink something cold in the hot breeze and watch the neighbors and the people passing by.

close to the main market area and just off the major ring road making it relatively easy to find and to get to/ away. rooms reasonable size with a pretty good menu. the courtyard is great to relax in being tucked away behind a wall but with a very short walk to the centre of lome.

Room Tip: went for the cheapest option and was perfectly fine - good size, warm shower.

Stay at the Hotel Cote Sud when you are in Lome and you will be pleasantly surprised. Great staff. Henri, the on-site manager, goes out of his way to make your stay the best. Our experience found the restaurant on-site to be very reasonably priced and great quality.

This is great little hotel in the center of Lome. Its not on a paved road nor is it fancy, but its clean, the AC works (always important...), the wi-fi connection is great and the food fantastic. My colleague and were there for four days and had no problems with anything. Lunch and dinner are prepared to order and if you are adventuresome they will cook up a meal using fresh produce of the day. Henri is a fount of knowledge and assisted us with getting a great driver and car (to go to Benin). For those of you who don't speak French - Henri is there to help!. Credit cards are not accepted - payment in FCFA or EUROS (there are several banks in Lome that change USD into FCFA). Will definitely use this hotel again when going back to Lome

I stayed twice with Hotel Cote de Sud the latter part of 2009, and found it to be a comfortable and hospitable oasis in Lome. The rooms are simple, but clean and comfortable with a nice homey touch. The staff is very good. Henri, the manager is superb and will go out of his way to attend to guest needs. His housekeeping and kitchen staff was attentive and welcoming. The friendly French ex-pat owner, Didier, can usually be found on the premises. He is always up for a chat with you if you can speak French, and will cook some simple but excellent meals. I ended up eating about half my dinners at the hotel during the times I was in Lome. I also found Didier to be a fair and honorable innkeeper to deal with.
The location of the hotel is convenient. The beach is within walking distance. Nearby is a small supermarket, lots of vendors as well as several places to eat.
If I visit Lome again, I'll definitely stay at Hotel Cote Sud. .
