“MUST STOP-OVER IN SWAZILAND”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 6, 2012

I have, for the past 15 years, been going for leisure and business, about 8 times per year to Swaziland but cannot always choose my accommodation, as it is booked by the company. I have stayed at most hotels in the Mbabane area, but since my first stay at Foresters Arms it was and remains my favourite! The hotel is situated in Mhlambanyatsi, about 25km (½ hour drive) from Mbabane in the middle of eucalyptus plantations. Rooms are very comfortable, most were recently renovated, and most important clean! There is always hot water in the bathroom. You can even go for a leisurly horse ride through the forests, at exceptionally reasonable cost. Staff is all very friendly, helpful and efficient. The food is exquisite, and à la carte, not the usual buffet. They will tell you portions are small, but you can have more than one of the courses on the menu – at no extra cost. Even Ruth, the hotel’s manager will encourage you to order more! Trust me, the portions are not small at all, so order one course at a time, and when it wasn’t enough, just order. For people travelling between Mpumalanga and KwaZulu/Natal in South Africa, the area is an ideal stop-over: from Jeppe’s Reef/Matsamo border crossing is will take about 2h driving (if driving this road, do make the 15km detour via Maguga Dam and make a stop at the viewpoints – wonderful scenery). From Golela/Lavumisa border about 3h. Crossing at Oshoek/Ngwenya border, less than 1h.

Room Tip: Rooms past reception (think its from no. 12 to 30-something) are more comfortable and have a better...

This little hotel is one of my favorites of the Southern Hemisphere.Cozy and ideally situated. The service is excellent, food is magnificent. Rooms are value for money. Ruth puts everything in to tourism and the hotel is the result. A must be visit for everyone.

It was a long drive, with out three grandchildren, from Skukuza in the Kruger National Park to the Foresters Arms Hotel. We arrived to find that our rooms had been upgraded at no extra cost to us and the children were delighted that we were just by the (albeit freezing) pool. The welcome was warm and efficient and the rooms were well appointed and comfortable. But it was the food that really made this hotel stand out. Having spent a few days in the vegetarian desert of the Kruger National Park, the dinner table was a welcome sight. Salad, fresh and tasty, in a help yourself buffet led to one of our granddaughters exclaiming that she'd never been so glad to eat several helpings of salad in her life. Since four of the five of us (all the children and one adult) were veggie, the kitchen created a menu specially for us, offering delicious alternatives to the regular meat and fish dishes. The whole was a kind of 'tasting' menu, so the idea was to have a small helping f each of the absolutely delicious dishes. Breakfast the next day was equally delicious. And the price was extremely reasonable. If and when we go again, perhaps just as adults, though the children loved it and we're made very welcome, we would definitely stay for longer. One night simply wasn't enough.

We stayed just a single night at the Foresters Arms, on our way from Kruger Park to St.Lucia on the south coast. As we had been very spoiled by the Jackalberry lodge in Kruger (see separate review), the Foresters was bit of a let down with its very simple rooms and bathrooms. This is compensated by a nice location in the forest and excellent food, both for dinner as well as breakfast. The hotel provides information on a number of surrounding entertainment options, most of these require you to have your own transport as the Foresters location is a bit out of the way.

Everything was over and beyond expectations. 5 star service was experienced at the restaurant/bar and hotel. Slept peacefully through the night on a very comfy bed with nice fire in the in-room fireplace.

On a weekend trip to Swaziland we spent the night at the Foresters Arms and loved it. The rooms were lovely and comfortable and the service excellent. We arrived at the hotel and had lunch and then headed out to explore the area. The lunch buffet was excellent value for money and the waiting staff in the restaurant very well trained. Everything about the hotel spoke of careful attention to detail: from the layout of the rooms to the menu's and small items for sale at the front desk. The morning call and tea and coffee brought to the room was a wonderful touch.
The selection of homemade breads and scones were fantastic, we even bought some to take home with us.
I would definitely recommend this hotel and I'm already making plans to go back for a longer stay!

I could not recommend this more - it is half an hour from Mbabane but beautiful and quiet. The staff are great and the food is excellent with the chef experimenting with interesting dishes (ok not all work perfectly) but always with homemade breads and cakes.

Room Tip: Stay longer than necessary - a great place to relax
