“Peacefull place that reminds of the past”

We enjoyed our stay in this lodge, it was so peaceful. The staff is very friendly, the possibilities to walk in the domain are great (the walk to execution rock is much recommended). But the rooms are a bit outdated, the water you get in your bath is brown...The food is ok. You can find the animals really everywhere around the lodge...It is a good stay for 1 or 2 days if you don't mind to be staying in a hotel of the eighties...

This is a nice, old-fashioned, but well kept accommodation. Do not expect 5 star luxury, just pretend to be beamed back to the beginning of the 20th c.
This jump back in time might be fine for the rooms and the garden, but unfortunately the cooking is pretty awful. Basically you get rather dry chicken every evening. I do not expect gastronomic highlights in the bush, but the charming ladies who look after the Lodge should be sent to some cooking classes.
Wines are a rip-off: the selection is very limited... but bear in mind that the prices are double of what you pay in the restaurant near the entrance gate. Fortunately, the waitresses do not mind if you bring your own drinks to the restaurant.
On a more positive note, Mr. Reilly is often around and speaking to him about nature, wildlife and conservation issues is an absolute privilege!

Our stay at Reilly’s Rock was perfect. It is located in the Miliwane reserve where there were lots of wildlife to see. We enjoyed looking at these creatures walking around freely. The bush babies were absolutely cute and amazing. We took lots of snaps of them. The accommodation was good. It was clean, spacious and neatly arranged. We had a comfortable stay there. The entire place is calm and quiet. It is absolutely peaceful staying here. The staffs are friendly and take efforts to make you feel comfortable while you are here. We simply loved our stay at this place. We recommend it to anyone.

I stayed two nights at Reilly's Rock Lodge in April 2010 with my husband and parents. We were booked into "standard rooms" which turned out to be a fantastic cottage with a wrap around porch, with two bedrooms, two baths, and a fantastic living area in the middle with a working fire place. We were PLEASED. The rooms were not huge, but they were quite comfortable. At night, there was no noise, making it very easy to sleep.

Breakfast and dinner are communal, but we were lucky to be staying there with great folks. The food is not 5 star gourmet, but it is incredibly good. Dinner included a starter, main, and dessert. We had PLENTY to eat. Breakfast was traditional English fare with fruit, granola, and yogurt as well.

The best part of Reilly's is the location. Its located within the Mlilwane reserve, which is full of all sorts of animals, including the rare Roan antelope. At Reilly's, I had the opportunity to feed bush babies by hand (so cute!) and I came incredibly close to petting a blue duiker. The animals are not skittish and walk around the property freely.

There are numerous hiking trails in Mlilwane as well as horseback riding. Its an easy drive to the Swazi candle place in Malkerns or to the Swazi glass factory in Ngwenya. We also woke up and drove to Mkhaya's reserve for a day safari, which I would highly recommend.

Overall, Reilly's was peaceful and comfortable. My parents said it was their favorite part of the trip to southern Africa - and that was after going to Kruger, Cape Town, and Victoria Falls! If that's not a stellar review, I don't know what is.

This is the place for you if you like peace and quiet, don't have small children (they don't permit kids under a certain age), like to be outdoors, don't mind that animals walk around, and don't need 5 star gourmet meals. Bring your own wine and sit on your porch and relax!

I should also note that the staff is incredible and eager to please. Whatever you need - they will make it happen!

The room we had was absolutely lovely, feather pillows, mohair blanket for cosy siestas, great shower, hot hot hot instantly.
We were given it after being shown the honeymoon room in the cottage. The two girls ( Fortunate and Ruth) realized we weren't happy and offered us the room in the house. What a difference, much prettier, we didnt have to drive to meals or sit in a rather grim dark house. Breakfasts were delicious, but dinner really wasn't good. And Sunday night was not good at all, there was only one of the girls on. They had to do every thing for ten of us on her own there was a huge diffrerence between the service the night before. However bad short cuts on the food, tinned fruit salad for breakfast, with processed cheese, bought ice cream and chocolate sauce and very overcooked main dishes. Great great coffee.

We stayed here for 2 nights on our way up to Kruger. What a little Gem. The room that we were origanally allocated was very small and dark. Ruth who seems to run the place on her own was very helpfull and offered us a cottage which was about 150 metres from the lodge.
Just what the doctor ordered I was happy. The food is homely and very well cooked by Ruth and plenty of it.
The reason we stopped at the lodge was for my wife to see the Bush Babies in the evening which is quite an experience. She also got the best photograph of our whole holiday the Frog in the pond. The only negative I had was the lodge is very dark during the day no sun gets thru the trees.

I have stayed in Reilly's Rock 3 times. The first time was in 2002. It was still run in an amateur way. slow service and strange food. One night the cook proudly announced dessert was trifle. What arrived was a green jelly. But I just loved the place. We stayed in Gogo's room which is so romantic and full of history.
At dusk we fed the bush babies.

We returned with some friends in 2003 and stayed in the seperate cottage. Again a lovely stay. 2 ladies were running the lodge now and they did a great job.

Then in 2007 I returned with my parents. It was still a little paradise, maybe it had even gotten better. There was an abundance of exotic birds all around the garden, little antelopes were roaming the grounds, the bushbabies were still there.

Reilly's rock is a little piece of heaven, I would definitely return for a 4th time. Mlilwane reserve is great because you can just walk around by yourself or take a leisurely drive. It is so much more relaxing than the big 5 reserves

The best thing is that prices have come down over the years but standards have gone up. A must on any RSA trip
