Comfortable dining room overlooking a water hole, visited by so many animals you hardly need to leave the camp. A further water hole a short drive away is even better for the number of animanls. The rooms are comfortable and there is also the possibility to camp and self cater (there is quite a large supermarket 15 minutes down the road)

We stayed here for 2 nights after we visited Kruger Park. We stayed in the bhubesi camp, about half an hour drive from the main ndlovu camp. Bhubesi camp is really lovely, a quiet place overlooking a little river with nice spacious stone houses.
The Rhino's here are not to miss, its almost a challenge not to see a rhino here.
But our dissappointment came when we went on a game drive. They took us to the lion compound which is fenced off from the rest. We were driving along the fence as one male lion and 3 lionesses came running (!) past us. Although this was a nice sighting, it made us wonder why they were running and why we drove of in the opposite direction... Sitting in the back of the vehicle we saw the lions running to a spot at the fence where they were being fed by some guys on a tractor from behind the fence. When I asked the guide about this he said he didnt know what was happening... but we drove of quickly, and after a detour we drove back to the fence, where we found the lions with parts of some antilope.
We were stunned... if we want to see lions being fed by humans, we will go to the Zoo... When asking the guide, he said the lions caught a weak animal... Yeah right...

So I recommend this park for the antilopes and rhino's and birds... But for real, unspoilt lions please go to a bigger park where they can roam freely, like Kruger!

Hlane is great value, and you see a lot of wildlife compared to many other parks. We saw hippos, elephants, lots of antelopes, giraffes, zebras, wild boar and rhinos. It was a real bargain compared to Kenya, where they try to screw foreigners for every last shilling - you only pay 10 rand more than locals. The park is not particularly beautiful compared to others I've visited, but I saw a lot more animals and we had the freedom to go wherever we wanted. There aren't that many tourists at Hlane, so you feel like you get it all to yourself. The only possible negative is that we didn't bother reading the information about the elephants and got chased by an irate bull that we were watching, so I'd recommend actually reading the advice before you get charged by one! But that was our fault not the park - this would have been five stars if it had been as beautiful as some of the others that I've visited, but in terms of what you see and value for money, it's fantastic.

We spent one night in the Hlane Royal National Park base camp, and that was worth while to enjoin the hippo's and rhino's at the pool.
We also booked a 2,5h tour to see the lions, but this was dissapointing. We only were 1h in the 'lion section', where we got to see a lion, but our guide was not very respectful: he went dangerously close to (according to him) two aggressive elephants, and started revin the engine to attract some reaction from a sleeping lion...

The pool at the rest camp is great! You are really close to it, and you have a great view of hippo's and rhino's roaming around.
