I've been coming to the Acropole since 2003. During the civil war, everyone from outside came to stay at Acropole hotel and it is still a good place to stay.
It is used by NGO people, consultants, WorldBank employees and AU/UN military personell and the occasional Indiana Jones wannabee.
The owners are great, always friendly and you always feel welcome. The hotel also is able to take care of your official registration wich is a real hassle if you have to do that yourself. In front are taxis waiting (old ones, no airco!) and if you dont speak arabic, the management will come down with you to instruct the drivers where to go.

Room are still very basic but seem to have been upgraded a little as you used to share bathrooms, i had my own last time. There are aircos present

If you want to, you will be picked at the airport and brought to the hotel, situated in the middle of Khartoum.
There are 4 PC available in the lobby for guests but also wireless is available for free.
..and if you are around in the lobby in the evening, you will be treated o some icecream ;-)

I recently stayed in Khartoum on a business trip, and although it wasn't my first trip there, it was my most comfortable. I sated at the Acropole Hotel near Goumhoureya street. It is a family owned hotel, and as it names implies, the owners are Greek-Sudanese residents.
They have a very friendly warm and extremely caring atmosphere there. They lend you every possible assistance during your stay. They would confirm your airline ticket, give you books to read, and even have a supply of basic mediactions needed in case of an emergency.
You stay on a full board basis, which makes it really easy if you don't want to hunt around Khartoum looking for a place to eat. They greet you with a gracious smile, at all times, and run such a smooth operation that you hardly feel they are doing anything, inspite of a very clean atmosphere and creative cuisine.
Staying there realy made a difference to me.
Thank you Acropole.
