“Asian fusion dining with a view of the Niles”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 21, 2012

This is actually in the Corinthian hotel, which is the new name for the Burj Al-Fateh, so don't get confused. The food was very good, and I was hungry for spring rolls and hot- sour soup, so I wasn't disappointed. For locals, it could be expensive, but with the currency conversion rates, it's affordable for foreigners. Well, the view and the service are top. I didn't like it though as I left a large tip for our waiter, and the man running the cash register came and grabbed it before the waiter got to the table. The waiter probably never saw that tip!
We had a table toward the outside edge facing toward the window, and the table is actually on a clear surface not attached to any wall, so you get the impression of being slightly suspended above floors visible below and that view all around you - Nice? Yes, wine would have made it even better.... (Too bad that the 5 star hotels in Khartoum can't offer it.)

“Great ambiance - terrible experience”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 30, 2012

From the other reviews It seems like I had an unlucky experience. 3 of us visited at around 9 pm, it wasn't busy - there were about 4 or 5 other parties seated with 2 staff looking after things... We ordered some drinks while we waited to order food, after 3 reminders the drinks came 30 minutes later and this was to be the theme for the rest of the evening. To cut a long story short, we didn't get served our main course until around 11 pm - a number of the other guests had given up waiting by this point and left without eating. When the food arrived it was not well cooked and in fact all 3 of us had stomach problems the next day.

All this is a real shame as the young woman who appeared to be in charge was incredibly positive and friendly and the waiter was also clearly out to do a good job.

I can only assume they were short of staff although this was never communicated and no offer was made to compensate customers in any way.

In summary, great location and ambience but let down by the experience.

“Best view and dining in Khartoum”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

Food is good, a mix of different Asian influences (Chinese, Japanese, Thai) Staff excellent and very friendly. View up on the 18th floor is great. Best place for a romantic dinner in Khartoum.

“Everything but the Wine!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 18, 2012

Rickshaw is a lovely intimate restaurant located on the top floor of the Burj. The menu is unique and fun, listing the countries associated with the dishes. Mixing and matching is recommended. The food was beautifully plated and tasted delicious. The service is very attentive, but not obtrusive. The restaurant ambience is intimate, but not dark. The views are really not that great as you have to look through the steel and glass structures that surround the windows - which, in themselves are quite modern techno, but if it's the Nile you want to see, it's a bit difficult and obstructed. Overall, restaurant is highly recommended and is as swanky and upscale as anything I've seen anywhere. They'll put wine glasses on your table, but don't get excited! - it's still Sudan, and they're used as water goblets!
